his blood covered arms vigorously, trying to remove the stains as if it was poison. He did not
stop even when his arms bled, continuing his vigorous actions. I pushed my way through the
crowd and tore off a strip of my clothing, wrapping it around his arms. The crowd returned to
the shadows, fearing the prince may act violently. The prince pushed me away and made a run,
running from the boy, running from his people. Staying with him is the only thing that came up
from my mind as I followed his tracks.
I found the prince beside a dried up well. His face glistened with fresh dried tears as he looked
up at me. He eyes shimmered under the ivory moon, fresh and clear from crying. He pointed to
his heart as he turned and spoke, ‘It hurts. I don’t know why.’ I stood and waited as continued,
‘My father told me the legends of Khara-hot when I was younger. Generations ago, a great warrior
threw all of his treasures in this very well when the Chinese army came and slaughtered our
people like pigs. A few survived, and they concentrated on reviving the tribe, and succeeded
in bringing back the prosperity in the past. He told me that everything has an end and that the
end is just a new beginning, a new chance to start over. Though no one can go back and make
a brand-new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand-new ending. I’ll prove to those
who looked down on me and those who wish to see us fall, that I am worthy and that I am capable
to turn the tables and bring honor and glory to our name. I have to tend to my subjects if I were to
win wars and bring glory to my people. The treasure could wait. Who needs that anyway? I will
do it myself. I’m sorry for what happened earlier.’
I beamed. It took a boy’s life to wake him from his nightmare, to bring memories of his
parents back to him. Enough blood was shed in his time. It’s time for an end. On the spur of the
moment, the prince glowed of a faint blue light while the silhouettes of the people glowed with
the same hue as they stared each other out in bewilderment. Eavesdroppers emerged from their
hiding places and smiled at the prince, relieved from the fear of death and hunger as well as
acknowledging the prince’s decision. The soul of the young boy who died earlier faded in and
hugged me from behind
‘Thank you, sir.’ He whispered. He circled around his glowing tribe mates and stopped in front
of the amazed prince. ‘My lord,’ the boy dipped his head slightly. ‘Your decision is the treasure.
You realized your mistakes and released everyone from the curse of suffering for eternity by
ditching your vengeance. Your parents would be proud of you, my lord.’ The tribe joined hands
and circled me, beaming with joy. They are slowly fading away, leaving all the pain and tears
behind and heading towards their future. The prince wafted towards me and hugged me tight. ‘I’m
sorry. Thank y…’ he breathed as he faded into the night sky.
I grinned at where he was supposed to be and looked up. Specks of gleaming light flickered
on a dark blue blanket made of hues of blues and purples, making anything seem possible. I was
mesmerized by the heart captivating night sky as the wolves howled from afar. I settled myself
next to the old well and slept, right next to the treasures buried deep, listening to the deep purrs
of the great white cats…
