Playtimes December 2014 - page 6

H
appy birthday to us!
Playtimes
turns 12 this month!
We’ve seen
a lot of changes since our 2002 launch: we’ve grown from a newsletter to a big, glossy
magazine, and we’ve watched new businesses grow into successful, loyal advertising
partners.
While we’ve had to say goodbye to far too many people whose lives took them on to other adventures
in other countries,
we’ve watched our total readership and circulation
numbers swell
. We are absolutely delighted that so many of you have been with us for so many
years. For some of you, when you started reading
Playtimes
, your own kids were tiny. Now, seemingly
suddenly,
those wee ones have turned into tweens and teens
. And, it’s with that
sentiment in mind that we bring you an issue all about the new round of parenting challenges that you
face.
This next chapter can seem fraught. When you’re facing cyberbullying, drugs and sex, those days of
breastfeeding and nappy-changes can seem a world away. In both cases, you’re not sleeping through
the night, but so much else has changed. I hope the articles inside will help you navigate the journey.
Additionally, for those of you who are struggling to balance the
demands of raising your
tweens
with the challenge of
watching your parents age from afar, the special
“sandwich generation” section
might be a great place to start reading.
If you are craving a Christmas fix, I hope you’ll visit our website (
, where
we’ve got several stories to get you into the holiday mood. Wherever and however you’ll be celebrating
this festive season,
I wish you joy and happiness, with lots of cookies (or
“biscuits”, if you prefer!) and laughs with your friends and family
.
See you in 2015,
