Leap of faith
There are a few definitive moments
in every person’s life. My mentor calls
them “the parachute moments” – you
either go for it or you’ll miss it forever.
In 2009, I felt adventurous and
energetic enough to invest in another
venture that I truly loved. I liked my
police job, but motherhood took me
back to my life-long interest –children
and their education – and so I founded
BookLodge.
Working smart
I sleep seven hours every night, and I
go to the gym three times a week. By
having more “me” time, I find I can
concentrate better at work, work
faster, and be more productive at my
desk. I eliminate unnecessary tasks
like checking email or fiddling with my
phone every five minutes, or surfing on
the internet purposelessly.
Family focus
Every morning, I spend short but
warm moments with my children over
breakfast. Whenever I can get home
early for dinner, I leave my work behind
completely and interact with my
children mindfully. My husband is my
best buddy. We converse over every
little thing happening during our day,
so I feel like he’s always with me. Unless
there are emergencies, Sunday is
family time – non-negotiable.
Life calling
I’d love to grow FreshLodge, already a
well-known brand in the Chinese mitten
crab market, to a household brand
known for good food from safe sources.
And I’d like, through BookLodge, to
enhance awareness of the importance
of mindful parenting in early childhood
education.
I can’t think of anything more
impactful than the influence and
teaching from one’s own parents. I
foresee myself devoting time and effort
to this cause for the rest of my life. In
this, I think I have found my calling.
