There’s an app for that
Waterlogged
(Apple)
It's difficult getting children to drink enough
water. Yet give them a chance to play around
with an app specifically designed to track their
liquid intake and watch them turn into little
sponges.
Kids Yogaverse
(Apple, Android)
A collection of apps (I am Love, I am Moon, I
am Energy etc.) aimed at introducing children
to yoga through a storybook format.
Happy Kids Timer
(Apple, Android)
Getting kids out of bed and ready for school
is often a battle. With this fun (and highly
customizable) app, you can set goals and
rewards for completing tasks such as brushing
teeth, making their bed and getting ready
within the time limit you need.
Change4Life Sugar Smart
(Apple, Android)
Launched by the UK’s National Health System
(NHS), this app is targeted at children but useful
for the whole family. Just scan a barcode
and see how many cubes of sugar are in
the product. It also gives the recommended
maximum daily amounts for different ages.
SAHM Thrive
(Apple, Android)
Launched by the Society for Adolescent Health
and Medicine, this app is primarily designed
for parents to help them start conversations
with their children and discuss topics such as
alcohol and substance abuse, tobacco use,
mental health and social media, amongst
others.
Sworkit Kids
(Apple, Android)
The perfect (free) exercise app for teens and
tweens. Included are a variety of routines for
strength, agility or flexibility and balance, but
many others can be added (e.g. pre-game
workout) at no additional cost.
Grow
(Apple, Android)
A mindfulness meditation app designed
specifically for teens. They boast over 450
sessions in categories such as Unlock Athletic
Potential, Relieve Stress and Kick Bad Habits.
It’s an excellent way for parents and teens to
meditate together.
7-Minute Workout for Kids
(Apple)
This exercise app is ideal for younger children
as they go through the workout routine
together with an animated character (boy or
girl). There are 12 exercises (30 seconds each,
followed by 10 seconds of rest) and the app is
extremely easy to navigate.
Big Cat Race
(Apple, Android)
This app designed to get kids running, whether
on the spot or a track, makes it an ideal way to
get children moving even when they cannot
go outside. The user chooses his opponent (lion,
cheetah or leopard) and the races can be
based on steps, time or a free run.
Hong Kong Clean Air Network
(Apple)
Some days it’s just better to stay indoors in
Hong Kong, especially when planning physical
activities. CAN’s app gives detailed information
about the air quality throughout the territory,
including user-generated live comments.
