on and also helped me realise that I
was not responsible for their pain.”
Divorce affects everyone in the
family, but it is especially difficult for
children. Promises are broken. Hearts
are broken. Dreams are broken.
Yet, as difficult as it is for a parent to
cope with their own roller coaster of
emotions that comes with divorce,
they need to protect their children
from being broken.
When the parental unit splits,
children lose their sense of security.
The future is unknown and scary,
and children are left to answer many
troubling questions,” advises child
therapist and counsellor Lora Lee,
who supports parents and children
of divorce at St John’s Cathedral
Counselling Service. “Whilst divorce
is never easy, each parent needs to
remain the adult and be prepared
to broach the subject, in an effort to
cause as little emotional damage to the
child as possible.”
