Nicola Burke:
Travel-writing contest finalist
Nicola grew up in London and caught the travel bug
from her globetrotting parents. At night, she pored
over an atlas, plotting adventures and learning
capitals of the world (which she can still recall as a cool party trick). After
graduating (with a geography degree!) she backpacked around Europe, the
Americas and Asia. When money ran out, she joined a global management
consultancy and spent most Monday mornings at Heathrow. One day, her
boyfriend’s job relocated them to Tokyo. After three years of head-hunter by
day and karaoke singer by night, they moved to Hong Kong. Five years later,
her sushi obsession is now a dim sum addiction. She hopes to pass the travel
bug to her own two children (Daisy, aged three, and Sky, aged 15 months)

Cindy Ip
Cindy was born in Hong Kong, but grew up in Toronto,
Canada. Inspired by her high school English teacher,
Cindy developed an interest for literature, which became
one of the areas she majored in while studying at the
University of Toronto. The other subject she majored in was new media – she’d
already taught herself how to design websites when she was just 13 years old.
After graduation, Cindy began her career in marketing in Toronto. Last year,
Cindy’s curiosity led her to move to Hong Kong so she could explore the city
she was born in. Ultimately, her dream is to travel around the world. In her
spare time, Cindy enjoys learning new skills, volunteering, reading non-fiction,
travelling and writing.
