The big
FRIZZ!
Hong Kong
must-have
It’s summer in Hong Kong, and that
means frizz season. But, you don’t have
to suffer… too much.
First, what is frizz? When the hair’s
cuticle layer is dehydrated, it allows
moisture to pass through the strand,
which makes it swell up a bit. Ironically,
that makes your hair look even drier and
frizzier, instead of smooth, defined and
shiny. Generally, frizz is more visible and
problematic with curly hair, because
the strands are already typically more
dehydrated, and consequently more
vulnerable.
There are several ways you might
be contributing to your hair’s
dehydration, including:
• Not drinking enough water.
• Taking certain medications.
• Not deep conditioning enough.
• Not using the correct shampoo.
• Over-processing with too many
colour or intense treatments.
If you really want to combat frizz,
you’ll have to make some changes.
• Get a keratin treatment, which
replaces the keratin in your hair and
helps keep moisture out.
• Use argan oils to seal the cuticle.
• Change to more intense moisture
and protein treatments.
• Select shampoos and conditioners
designed to calm the hair.
• Get fewer chemical treatments.
• Keep a short hairstyle.
Chat with your Hong Kong stylist,
who will understand the climate and
work with you to find a solution that
suits your hair and lifestyle.
Q
What foundation is best in this heat
and humidity?
A
There is only one answer: no
foundation! Nothing really works
perfectly when your face is sweaty or
wet. Any foundation that can actually
withstand the sweat probably isn’t very
good for your skin over the long term.
Instead of foundation, try these tips for
looking fresh:
Chanel CC Cream
This moisturiser offers coverage,
correction and broad spectrum
sunscreen, all in one fabulous product.
It contains cornflower water, which is
supposed to comfort and soothe sensitive
skin, as well as hyaluronic acid to help
maintain hydration all day long.
• Try a light powder that offers
some coverage.
• Only use concealer where you need it
– on dark circles, spots or uneven areas,
for example.
If you really feel like you need to
wear foundation, ask for samples before
you buy. Then, apply it and wear it for a
(hot and sweaty) day before making
a decision.
