We asked: What was the most memorable party you ever hosted or attended, and why?

in your opinion

M

y most memorable party was my 30th birthday party. My husband few my sister out to Hong Kong from the US and planned a weekend of surprises – from elegant dinners, to spa services, to a catered shindig at our house with all of our friends. It was wonderful and thoughtful!

e were quite new to the birthday thing in HK, so my husband and I were scratching our heads to fnd a decent venue and theme for our three-year-old’s birthday. February was too cold and gloomy to be out on the beach or anywhere outside, and we were not ready to throw a lavish party with clowns galore, sports activities, bouncing castles or other grand acts. In the end, we made it very simple, hosting the party at our place: my son and I baked cookies and cakes, which was so much fun for the entire week preceding the event. On the day, we moved all of the furniture aside and organised an arts and crafts corner, with pencils, papers and stickers, as well as paper masks to be decorated and be worn once fnished. The children had a blast and just didn’t want to leave. Helium balloons, small temporary tattoos and Polaroid shots were nice party favours. Sometimes things are just best kept simple!

ne of the most memorable parties I ever attended was a girlfriend’s surprise 30th birthday party, organised by her boyfriend. It turned out to be their wedding, which she knew about but had not let on. Even her parents were unaware that it was to be their wedding, and the mother of the bride very nearly did not come as she had other commitments that day. Lucky for her she did!

t has to be our “Leaving London” barbecue party. All our friends and family came and showed us so much support. It was emotional, exciting and scary. I will never forget it.

y friend Karen’s Abba party where we all dressed up was hilarious. She is Singaporean and had this amazing blonde wig. We all had blue or green eye shadow, and the sad thing was we all knew the songs and had been around when the group won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974!

e were having my son’s sixth birthday party, and while everyone was clapping and singing “Happy Birthday” to him, my two-year-old daughter already had her fngers in the cake, tasting the yummy chocolate birthday treat.

he most memorable party I attended was a “Welcome to LA” party hosted by my uncle, on my frst trip to America. It was full of interesting people and the occasional celebrity, but he held it the night I arrived and I was massively jetlagged. The whole thing was surreal. It felt like something out of movie.

T

he party hosted by my wonderful parents on our wedding day! The set-up was fabulous, with stalls around the room offering food from every corner of the world, international dancers fown in for the event, and dear friends and family who’d fown in to attend our special day.

My niece doing the biggest poop ever, only to have her nappy explode whilst seated on the head table; forgetting my steps during our frst dance and having to compensate with some inappropriate R&B moves; Grandma losing her temper and storming out, taking my dad’s side of the family with her because there was a mix-up with the seating plans; my best friend forgetting her words during her speech; and a table almost catching fre because of my husband’s crazy friends did nothing to stop our wedding day from being the frst of many fabulous days to come!
