f I can raise questions and open
minds through my photography,
then that makes me happy. The
quote I have been repeating
throughout this project is this: ‘I hope
that the next generation will live in
a world of equality without being
labelled or categorised or questioned.
Without being judged or bullied, and
to have the freedom to marry legally
whoever they love and the freedom
to create their family however they
choose.’”
Originally from Lancashire,
England, Laura Simonsen and her
partner Kate met in Sydney 11 years
ago, and have been in Hong Kong
for the last seven. “We have two boys,
aged four and two, and we try to do as

hopefully acceptance, too – about the many

Kate and I have the same family
values and morals. We try to ‘keep
it real’ as much as we can and try to
keep their lives here as down to earth
as possible. We love teaching them
about other countries and cultures,
and travelling with them. They both
go to mixed kindergarten schools and
our eldest son comes home telling us
about children from all around the
world.”
Family, and its various forms,
is the motivation behind Laura’s
photography project. Inspired by a
photographer friend, Gary Tyson,
Laura was looking for a reason to take
more photos. “Gary suggested I think
