me and go with it... so I did. I realised
that photography is a very powerful
tool; it can be used to raise awareness,
communicate, document and record
history.”
The result of her efforts is
Family
.
A project
, through which she hopes to
raise awareness, acceptance
and understanding about
different types of families.
Laura explains:
“The main reason for
choosing this theme for a
photography project here
in Hong Kong is that for a
start, if you are not legally
married – as in a husband/
wife relationship – then
under Hong Kong law, it
is pretty much impossible
to start a family [legally].
To me, this is very unfair. For my
project, I managed to find families
living in Hong Kong that have created
their families in ‘unconventional’
ways. Listening to the stories of how
each family was created and what
family means to them was the most
interesting aspect of this
project. I really want this
project to raise awareness
about this and also to
celebrate diversity in
general.”
Laura continues to
photograph families and
hopes, one day, to turn
the collection into a book
about families and diversity
throughout the world. To
