are Etsy and Artport. “I love that in Hong Kong you can have
your house painted in a flash or if you need curtains they
won’t cost you an arm and a leg,” says Karin.
The configuration of their apartment is clean and crisp,
with interesting textured woods and upholstered pieces of
furniture in warm greys that are striking yet work with a busy
family. “I do like a warm interior; I love textures and I guess,
because I live in a house full of boys, then I like an interior
style that will suit all of us. I also like interiors that are not too
clinical or trendy,” she says. Their artwork is striking, with
pieces sourced from her home country of New Zealand to her
favourite: “The enormous New York map, just because of the
scale of it,” says Karin.
Karin’s most-loved two rooms in their home are her office
and the boys’ room. “The office is my peaceful place where
I can go to hide from everyone. I love that it’s quite different
to the rest of the house furniture-wise, and I guess it’s kind of
quirky, with all my little knick-knacks.” Her boys share a room
and it’s painted in one of her favourite colours: grey. “I like
industrial themes and I think it’s a room that will serve them
well over many years to come,” Karin says.
After living all over Hong Kong, including Sai Kung,
Discovery Bay, Pok Fu Lam and Happy Valley, it’s no wonder
the Loorams call Hong Kong home. This contemporary, light-
filled apartment, with plenty of storage and a calm, pared-
back feel, allows them to come home and enjoy time away
from their full lives.
