ot everyone relishes the chance to design and
renovate their own home, but when American-
born Brittany and her French-born husband
Jean-Sebastien Bret bought their four-bedroom
apartment two years ago in Discovery Bay, she embraced it.
“We gutted and renovated the place before we moved in, so
I did everything: moved walls, chose floors, tiles, paint, faucets,
toilets, cabinetry, bookcase design, lighting… and it was a really
fun process,” laughs Brittany. As well as being well put together,
the house has to function well on a practical level for their three
sons, Lucien, five, Alexis, three, and Xavier, one.
The beauty of the home’s layout gives the illusion of living
in a treehouse in the sky. “We have windows on three sides of
the house; it has a pretty open and airy feel to it. Our living and
dining areas have windows exposed to the green mountainside
we live next to and it’s a very serene feeling,” says Brittany.
