Rachel Read
Rachel was born and educated in Nottingham
(of Robin Hood, DH Lawrence and lace-making
fame), but Hong Kong is now where she calls
home. Having spent her formative years here
with her English dad and HK mum, she felt the
call to return to the Fragrant Harbour on her
first holiday back in over a decade (around
the time she downed her first proper bowl of
wonton mien)… and has barely left the place since! A passion for
reading and writing began with the world’s largest collection of Enid
Blyton books and making up stories to tell her dad – and once her high
school English teacher joked that she seemed to have a “jet-propelled
Biro”, the rest is history! A freelance writer and editor who has contributed
to SCMP, Hong Kong Tatler Dining and BBC Nottingham, Rachel loves her
two Yorkshire terriers, bacon, desserts and nail polish too much to pick a

Sharon Maloney
A true blue Hong Kong girl, born and raised here
to British and Chinese parents, Sharon works
as a teacher in a local school. In her free time,
Sharon can be found eating, writing, or with
her head in a recipe book and drinking a large
cocktail (usually all at the same time!). While not
a professional chef, Sharon has cooked for most
of her life and has very little patience for long,
complicated recipes. Being extremely lazy, Sharon adapts most recipes to
work in 30 minutes or less. When not playing with food, Sharon spends her
