Gilian Johnston
Scenic Stirling in Scotland was where Gillian grew
up. An inquisitive, talkative, active child who didn’t
like to nap when there was fun to be had, she
quickly learnt to multi-task, being known to do
jigsaws, read, do crafts and watch TV all at the
same time – usually whilst eating.
Developing an early penchant for cooking, Gillian
has combined her passions for food and travel,
frequently dragging her partner Vincent round the globe armed with nothing
more than a rucksack and guidebook.
Calling Hong Kong home for almost ten years, Gillian happily multi-tasks, being
a domestic goddess and gym bunny whilst writing and planning the next
adventure. She has also recently qualified as a yoga instructor. Read more about

John Dabell
John is a teacher and ex-school inspector from
Nottingham in England. He has taught all age groups,
from kindergarten to adults, across the UK and in
Norway. He is the author of 10 books and numerous
educational articles. He loves practical maths, creative
problem solving and lateral thinking puzzles. He
passionately believes in the value of using puppets
as teaching tools and his interests include chimney pots, sphagnum mosses,
waistcoats, orangutans, making pasta and the sound of London Underground
trains. When he’s not out walking his Cockapoo dog with his nine-year-old daughter,
he can be found in a coffee shop somewhere or climbing and zip wiring through
Sherwood Forest. He hates shopping for clothes but loves popping bubble wrap.
