Playtimes October 2016 - page 6

welcome
W
ow, this is a blast from the past! It was some ten years ago that I enjoyed my first stint
as editor of
Playtimes.
It gives me great pleasure to be back holding the reins for a few
months while Freya is on maternity leave – congratulations to Freya and family on the
safe arrival of their daughter, Romilly.
This
Playtimes
party issue has everything you could possibly need to help organise
a birthday party. We round up the
best venues, entertainers and suppliers.
Gillian Johnston
offers advice on how to keep the party within a budget - no easy feat in Hong Kong - while John Dabell
introduces a selection of
no-tech games that are both educational and fun
. Be it for a
birthday party, play date or just to play with your children, these games will keep kids of all ages amused.
Now that the weather has cooled, it’s the perfect time to take to the trails of Hong Kong for a hike,
or perhaps you can tempt your child to join you for a run. In
Running Mate
(p.54) David Tanner offers
suggestions on how to
encourage children to take up running
and perhaps even sign up
for a family fun run.
I have to confess to enjoying the odd tipple, and for those of you that share a fondness for food and wine,
I can thoroughly recommend a trip to
Saint-Emilion in the Bordeaux region of France
.
Despite initially being nervous about the children, the whole family had a fantastic time and I couldn’t resist
sharing it with you in
A Barrel of Fun
(p.62).
Freya and Jo have done a fantastic job commissioning content for this issue, thank you ladies! We look
forward to bringing you lots more interesting articles over the next few months, starting with our
Mother
and Baby issue in November
. As a complete aside, I'm VERY happy that
Playtimes
has always
used baby photos on its masthead. I haven’t aged at all - according the masthead, at least!
Until next month, happy reading
