L
ong-time readers will know that I have been at
Playtimes
magazine for almost 12 years, but
it’s only in the last 18 months that I have become a mother myself. However, I have always
loved working on the magazine, so I am
thrilled to be wearing the Editor’s
hat
– even if it’s just for one issue!
Freya is now on maternity leave until the end of the year. No news yet, but we will keep
you posted!
For the October, November, December and January issues,
our Editor will be Louise
Drake
. Louise was Editor when I started at
Playtimes
back in November 2004, so it’s wonderful to
have the old(er) team back together! However, we do say goodbye to our Art Director, Charlotte, who is
leaving us to pursue a new and exciting opportunity. We wish her all the best!
Many of our long-term readers have children who have grown up with
Playtimes
, and so this month
we are giving a bit of time to our
tweens and teens
. Navigating these years can be tricky, but if
you have ASD, working out your place in the world can be even more daunting. Rebecca Simpson looks
at ways to keep talking with your teen and support them as they deal with the opposite sex. Fionnuala
Lenaghan looks at other aspects of
teens’ sexuality
, and Rachel Kenney looks at how to handle
(in)appropriate content on the screen.
Of course the teenage years can also be a lot of fun, with the slightly looser reins and a whole world to
explore. Our Resources pages have lots of
great ideas for teens
to look the part as they take on
the world, as well as
books and ‘toys’ to fuel their imaginations
.
It’s been a pleasure editing this issue, and I look forward to handing over to Louise in October.
Thanks for reading!
