Tree. Slowly regaining her energy, she gave her dog a mindless stroke on the head and debate
about whether to go back to the village or to keep going. She had already gone so far that going
back to the village seems very pointless so she decided to keep going, though not without a well
rested hour. She checked her watch; it was already two in the afternoon. She slowly unpacked her
bag and got out some bread and water, the golden dog stare intensely at the bread and let out a
tiny bark, reminding the girl that it have not eaten all day. Suddenly, the dog howled loudly and
growl at the same giant shadow 50m away from the girl. This time the girl notice and started to
pack quite quickly as she is frightened of what the shadow belonged to, she quickly untie her dog
and walk at the pace of lightning. Unfortunately, fate is against her as the creature breaks into
a run, each step shaking the surrounding sand. Soon the creature was insight of the girl. It was
3 meters tall with extremely long and sharp horns that can pierce through a body as if it was a
piece of paper. Instead of feet, it has claws with huge talons, hands the size of 2 dustbin lids and
eagle wings spreading out of its back, fluttering recklessly. The girl made the wrong choice of
looking back at the creature as she was frozen on the spot as soon as she saw the hideous monster.
The dog barked and barked, louder and louder each time, until the girl have finally realize the
situation and broke into a run, at a speed that is simply inhuman.
She ran and ran for what seems like an eternity and the monster is finally out of sight. She let
out a breath she didn’t realize she was holding and flops down onto the warm sand. She checked
her watch. It was already six thirty. She reached into her pocket searching for her compass, where
she was expecting a warm circular metal about 2cm thick, there was nothing. Nothing. Not in
her bag, not in her pocket, not anywhere. She must’ve dropped it while she was running, she
thought to herself. She decided to build a tent and sleep for the night before setting out to find her
compass, as she would be lost without it.
She woke up at the break of dawn and packed up as fast as she could. She has to find the
compass before she gets lost in this gigantic pile of sand. She untied her dog from the tree and
set off on her journey. It was 11 in the morning when she saw something glimmering in the sand,
reflecting the bright sun light. She ran off toward the circular metal, picking it up and dusting
it off the sand. The engraving of “Atque in perpetuum frater ave atque vale.” Forever and ever,
my brother hail and farewell. This was a gift that her grandpa gave it to her father, which her
father now gave it to her. This was the very last world he breathed before he left her alone with
the elders. She tucked the compass into the inner pocket in her coat and start walking towards
Beijing. It was not until a huge shadow casting over her that she realized what was happening.
She looked up and saw it. The monster. The monster of Gobi Desert. She was once again frozen
in place, unable to move or scream. The monster swoon down and grabbed her by the back. She
is frozen. Her dog barked and chased until the monster accelerate leaving the poor loyal god
behind the dust. The monster dropped the girl on to the hot sand, she have finally awoken from
her rigidness and tried to scramble and run, but the monster was to fast for her. The monster
tossed her back aside with its sharp muddy beak. The girl tried to scream, but nothing came out.
She knew that her time was near, now regretting never listening to the elders. She should not
have set foot on this journey, the journey to her death. She was Icarus flying to close to the sun.
Curiosity killed the cat they said, and that was one hundred and ten percent true. As the hideous
monster attack her leg, she lay still, accepting her faith. Holding back the tears, trying not to show
weakness. The monster stared her as if thinking through where to attack next, then leaned in
closer and closer to the girl’s throat. The girl let out a final scream as the monster tore her throat
