I thought the third blade would get its job done without any problem but I was wrong. The
third bandit sidestepped in a speed so fast that for a moment I thought it was just an illusion, but
he truly did it, and without any difficulty, he hold out his hand and stopped the flying blade with
his bare hand.
A fire erupted from his hand and the blade dissolved in a wild crimson flame, the devil’s fire.
That’s when I realized they were dark wizards who could destroy flying blades, which meant
they were trillion times stronger than me. Before I could drew out another blade, I felt the heat
around me start to radiate with energy, it started to form an invisible net, attempting to trap me
within it.
I tried to pull my inner self together, so as to hack into their minds, but I felt nothing, not a
single of sign of consciousness existed.
The truth struck me with so much force that I almost forgot I was in danger, someone was
behind this! Someone kidnapped the civilians, my partner and now they were after me! But
who could be that powerful, being able to create multiple reflections of himself over that much
distance that could best even an experienced supernatural investigator like me?
The net got tighter and tighter, I had to do something! Desperately, I threw out all the flying
blades, but they simply burst into flames around me. Before I could come up with another idea, I
felt the sand below me twisting, I was sinking… No, I was being pulled down by a pair of hands!
Suddenly, all the daylight vanished, sand brushed over my face, I felt like a free fall. Then I hit
the ground.
Pain reached my back, I couldn’t help to let out a groan. But I rose at once, preparing to
engage in the fiercest fight in my life, but surrounding me was a group of unarmed people who
stared at me with eyes filled with fear. I was in a small cave the size of a regular bedroom,
everyone was squeezed together tightly.
I immediately sensed the resemblance between these people and those at the town where I had
begun my search. I felt a sense of relief, because I had found them, the group of people Jason was
looking for.
“Thank you.” I broke the silence.
“You are a companion of Jason?” a teenage girl asked timidly. Her hair was a mess and her
clothes were torn, like everybody else.
“Yes,” I was eager to know what had happed. “What are you doing here? How did you save
me? Where is my partner? What is this place?”
“We don’t know!” the girl cried out in a trembling voice. “Jason, your companion found us
some time ago, but we couldn’t tell how long. We also don’t know how they could carry so many
of us at a time. It was just a regular night, we were sleeping. When we woke up, we had already
found ourselves packed inside this cave! We could sense people walking above us and we could
reach through the top of this cave to pull them in, but we cannot get out. We heard your cries and
so we decided to pull you in.”
“Where is Jason then?”
“He went that way,” the girl pointed towards the corner of the cave. There was a little hole,
large enough for only a person to creep through at a time. I saw light seeping through the hole. It
was the light source of the whole cave. I knew that was an exit.
“That’s the exit, what are you guys waiting for?” I felt ridiculous, about the idea that these
people were still lingering in this place when there was an exit right beneath their noses.
