Playtimes January 2015 - page 6

I
trust that you’ve been enjoying the holiday season to its fullest, complete with decadent treats
and lots of family fun! As I’ve said on this page before, I just love that the holiday season here
lasts so darn long – for me,
American Thanksgiving kicks things off
, way
back in November, and we just keep
celebrating through to Chinese New Year
.
With that holiday falling late this year – not until 19 February – we’ve got a full quarter of the year
devoted to celebrating. How fabulous!
For so many of us, the
holiday season means travel season
, too. Whether you’re
heading off to reunite with friends and family, escaping for a quiet beach retreat or embarking on a
grand adventure,
I know most of you are just as travel-mad as I am
.
A friend recently asked me, after living in Asia for more than a decade now, what was left on my
travel bucket list – a common topic of conversation for you, too, I’m guessing. While my wanderlust
hasn’t fizzled yet, the list has grown full with “harder” destinations. Phuket? Check. Shanghai?
Singapore? Sydney? Check, check, check. What’s left? Bhutan, Nepal, Mongolia… and so many
more, but few that can really be experienced in a quick weekend.
If you’re looking for ideas for your list, I hope you’ll find inspiration inside. We’ve tried to bring you
a
few easy trips
– ones that
can
be achieved in a weekend, like Manila or Singapore – as well
as some you might not have thought of trying from Hong Kong – like Costa Rica or Lisbon!
So, grab a map, settle in and get ready to
start dreaming of your next
destination
.
Bon voyage,
Tracey Starr
