This summer, the
International Arts
Carnival
showcases an array of
inspiring, entertaining performances
and cultural activities for family
audiences. The programme opens with
the National Folk Dance Ensemble of
Croatia, LADO, a folklore spectacle
of unique instruments, sentimental
songs, intricate footwork and gorgeous
costumes, from 11 to 13 July at the
Cultural Centre. Circus lovers will adore
TIMBER! by Canadian Cirque Alfonse.
Catch this captivating show of hair-
raising acrobatics, light-hearted antics
and astounding strength from 8 to 10
August at Sha Tin Town Hall and Yuen

Caped crusaders
With their distinctive hot pink capes and wild, fun approach to raising money
and awareness for women’s and children’s causes in Asia,
Tai Tais Without
Borders
(TTWB) never fails to make a splash! A recent half-marathon in Chiang
Mai helped raise almost $200,000 for human rights. On 17 May, TTWB supports
causes closer to home by hosting an open-bar dance party fundraiser at Fly
on Ice House Street. Hot new import, DJ Kray, will spin old-school hits from 8pm
to midnight. The theme is “Where the Wild Thangs Are” so get your animal-print

Jingle Twinkle Canto-Arts Workshop
was founded by Cantonese Opera artist
Miu Dan Ching in 2012 to promote traditional Cantonese Opera to the younger
generation. Funded by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, this training
platform allows kids to study different Cantonese Opera works, written
specially for them, to better understand traditional Chinese culture. The
Canto-Arts Workshop Cantonese Opera Finale Performance will be held on
24 May at 2:30pm at Ko Shan Theatre in Hung Hom. Tickets, $70 and $90, are
