Morzine, the pretty main hub of the
Portes du Soleil, is under an hour
from Geneva airport with wide village
nursery slopes, ice rink, swimming
pool and tobogganing.
An Asian option is Yongpyong,
the largest of the South Korean
resorts, with 31 slopes and 15 lifts,
suitable for various levels and ages. Fly
to Seoul direct from Hong Kong, then
transfer to the resort in two hours.
If you have family in Europe, why
not add a few days to your trip and
fly, via your homeland, on to a smaller
airport with a ski resort nearby?
Accessed via hubs including London
and Zurich, Austrian family-friendly
Tirolean resorts, including Seefeld
and Kühtai, are 30 minutes from
Innsbruck. Seefeld has an ice skating
rink, indoor swimming pool, extensive
cross-country skiing and horse-drawn
carriage rides that the whole family
can enjoy.
Alternatively from Hong Kong,
fly direct to Milan and transfer to the
beautiful Alpine village of Champoluc,
at the base of the Monterosa (just
under two hours from the airport). It is
a lovely option for families wanting to
cruise the blue and red runs together
after a morning’s lesson.
Travelling with teens
As your children get older, with a
few ski trips under their belt and the
patience to handle longer flights, look
for resorts with more challenging
terrain and specific activities for
teenagers to keep them entertained.
