wings and a pair of fiery yellow eyes, breathing flames from its mouth, stomped the ground right
in front of them. The flames set some nearby houses on fire. The villagers screamed and fled for
their lives. The dragon whipped its tail up and sent a dozen men flying. It wreaked havoc upon the
land. Some brave souls tried to hack at the metal menace with spears, but the beast just swatted
them away like flies.
“Give me back my stone, you greedy coward!” The dragon bellowed.
“The stone is … is … is … MINE. You … you … you … can’t have it. I … I … will not give … give
… you the stone!” The greedy brother stammered in fear, yet spoke with a hint of defiance.
“No one dares to disobey me!” Roared the dragon. And with a swirl of fire, the dragon
disappeared. But just when the villagers thought they were safe, the dragon came back with
something – no, someone – in his claws.
The greedy brother stared in awe. “It couldn’t be!” It was his elder brother. “I will give you one
last chance. Bring me the stone before dawn, or else your brother will die, and everything you
have will be destroyed.” The dragon took the elder brother and left.
The greedy brother was in a dilemma. Although he was greedy, he could not let his brother
die. He might not be brave but after all, he was his only family in the world.
So, the younger brother rode on his camel and set off at once. It was nightfall by the time he
reached the dragon’s dwelling, which was right at the edge of the desert. He saw his brother being
locked up in something like a cage at the dragon’s feet. The dragon was sleeping soundly.
In the distance, the younger brother saw a swirl of dust gathering. Immediately, he devised a plan.
He found a mining tool in his bag and walked up to his brother’s confinement. He quickly
pried open the cage and released his brother. Feeling that his precious stone was around, the
dragon woke up at once. “Give me the stone and I’ll let you go.” But instead of giving in to the
dragon, they ran as fast as they could towards the swirling dust. The dragon was desperate to get
his stone back and flew after them. The younger brother knew that they were actually running
into a sand storm, and he knew that a sandstorm at night was deadly. Yet, he had no choice
because he also knew very well that dragons were not to be trusted. The dragon would not let
them leave his dwelling alive.
Wind from all directions blew at them violently. The sandstorm was gathering speed and
force. They were technically ambushed by a gale of sand. They couldn’t see ahead of them, and
they couldn’t run any farther. Now, they both knew that no one could survive a sandstorm like
this, not even a dragon. The brothers held each other tight, hoping that a miracle would happen.
As dawn broke, the sandstorm finally ended. The dragon was buried in the sand, and so were
the two brothers. But suddenly, the brothers started to move. The younger brother was holding
the precious stone in his hand all the time during the sand storm. The stone they found was no
ordinary stone. It was the legendary Resurrection Stone!
The brothers had found something invaluable. And after that day, they were no longer miners,
but doctors, and they healed many poor fellows living in the Gobi Desert.
“What happened to them?” “Where is the stone now?” Joshua and Joanie asked.
“No one knows. But in Gobi Desert, explorers did find quite some precious stones and the first
dinosaur egg!” said Grandpa.
