understood that she would them to stay the night. “ From her signals I think she says someone
will come in the morning and help us” As they slept for the night they woke up in the morning.
All three of them could hear shouting outside. They slowly peeked outside to see what was
happening. They saw the old lady and the tour guide shouting. It was confusing but it seemed that
the guide was upset about them being safe.
Kevin’s dad walked up to them. He caught the guides’ arm and asked, “What’s happening? Why
did you leave us alone in the middle of the desert? You left us to die there? What were you thinking?”
The tour guide yelled.. “ I don’t want you foreigners on our land. You are going to spoil our
county… when ever foreigners come its only to pollute our beautiful country! Our tribe’s head
asked me to execute you! I could not do it – you brought your child along… I did not know what to
do.. So I left you in the middle of the desert.. And now you turn up at MY house…that’s why I am
angry with my mother.. She saved you..”
“No, no.. I am not here to do anything wrong, my friend” said Kevin’s father. “On the
contrary.. I want to help you people – to find a source of clean energy that will help you and your
country to progress” and then he explained his purpose to the guide.
The guide was unconvinced at first. After a lot of argument and explanations, he agreed that
he misunderstood them.
A week later, his research done and report ready, Kevin’s father bade farewell to the guide,
who was now a friend.
“Bye” said Kevin to the guide. “ You must thank your son, my friend” said the guide. If you
had come alone, I would have killed you with out a second thought.. But since you brought him
along, you are all alive now”
“Yes, yes” smiled Kevin’s father. “ So, Kevin how was your adventure?”
“Wonderful, dad… I can’t wait to see my friends.. have a lot to tell them.. And dad… I am
going to write a book about this…”
“Start with a story, Kevin… Then write a book”
“Good Idea, Dad…”
