The New Tale of the Pearl River Delta
HKUGA Primary School, Ng, Cyrus - 11, Fiction: Group 2
t was a very peaceful day in the Pearl River Delta. Everything seemed so normal. However, there was
one little problem that no one noticed at all that could get the whole area into a big, big trouble.
Natasha, Luca and Jessie were at home, without mom and dad. "Look! Natasha, look!" said Luca.
"What's happening? Are you trying to trick me again? My 'adorable' little brother?" said Natasha.
"No! Water is dripping from the ceiling from the toilet!" Luca shouted out loud.
"We'd better call the plumber," said Jessie.
"Oh well, the pipe has got nothing wrong with it but it's dripping water. Maybe it's all about that
humid weather," said the plumber. "I'll dry it for today and hopefully it won't be dripping anymore." Jessie
was watching the news on TV after the plumber left. "Breaking news, Pearl Island, which is located in the
Pearl River Delta, is going to be totally flooded two months later. 'Every year, Pearl Island's water level rises
up by 7 cm. It is definitely facing a dangerous situation,' says Professor Lalulo. Reported by Dingy Dongu."
"Oh… Wait! Are we going to Pearl Island this summer?" gasped Jessie. "That's exactly… two
months later!" said Natasha as she calculated. "We must tell dad and mom," said Luca. "No, we can't because
mom and dad are in Cyprus now," replied Jessie. "Let's wait until they're back…"

"Are you guys ready for the Pearl Island trip next week? Let's pack our stuff and get you ready!"
said Mom excitedly. To her surprise, the kids weren't excited at all and kept saying "No, we can't go now!
The trip has to be cancelled. " "What's wrong?" asked dad confusingly. "The news said that Pearl Island is
going to be totally flooded next week! Mom and dad, you don't want to die, right?"
Mom and dad tried to comfort the kids that the news was fake and they didn't want to ruin the
trip. A week later, they were one of the six families on the plane to Pearl Island.
"Honey, this is so strange. Pearl Island is a popular destination but there are only a few families on
board."
"Yup, but whatever, we are now on board!"
After three hours of flying, they were now stepping into a land full of danger. After picking up
their luggage, they took a taxi to the hotel.
"Matsukya West Bands Hotel please?"
"Tsunalasd! Run!" the taxi driver abandoned them and was gone in a second.
"What's Tsunalasd?"asked Mom.
"Look! It's Tsunami! We've got to run!" said Jessie.
"Run, kids. Run…." Dad was engulfed by the wave and gone.
"No! Daddy! Don't go!" cried Jessie.
“Jessie, there is a boat heading towards us. Get on the boat!" shouted Natasha, wiping her tears.
