assandra stared at the crystal blue sky with her big hazelnut brown eyes. Her foot tapped the
ground lightly, impatient to wait for her grandfather, Albert James Williams. He had immigrated to
Hong Kong about 15 years ago, and is a retired tour guide now. Behind her is Terminal 1 of the
Hong Kong International Airport. Her legs feel a bit sore from the 10 hour plane trip. Even though it was a
first class seat, her legs still felt like jelly and immobile.
“Hey! Cassandra Lily Williams! Cassie! Cass! Here!” her grandfather Albert waved wildly at her
inside a sleek black car. The Williams family is pretty wealthy, so there's no doubt that they have a personal
driver. The driver came down from his seat and helped her with her luggage and her suitcase. The car door
slid open and she jumped in the seat. A warm hug embraced her tightly. “Tell me all about your stories in
New York”, Albert suggested.
Albert brought Cass on a tour around Hong Kong, and they took their time sightseeing near the
Tsim Sha Tsui Tower, Victoria Harbour etc. The view was breathtakingly wonderful, but also extremely
horrid. Trash and rubbish scattered all around with plastic bags and plastic bottles floating on the sea, giving
out a terrible smell, as smelly as dead raw fish. Some rubbish just laid next to a trash can, and recycle boxes
were filled with un-recyclable materials. What a disgusting sight!
That night, Cassandra slept in a hammock as usual. Though a bed was provided, she was already
used to a hammock back in New York. Albert was generous to give her a large empty room for resting. She
couldn’t sleep well. Her vivid nightmares were about drinking polluted water and all the people around the
world died from drinking it. They were trying to reach her. “Save us!” they screamed. With a jolt, she
woke up sweating and was half tangled by the hammock.
After breakfast, Albert brought Cassandra to Central. He discovered a secret passageway in the back
of a few buildings, and there was a tunnel that led to the underground. With adventurous spirits and
uncontrollable thirst of answers in their curious minds, they walked deeper down. After several minutes,
they reached a room. Panels hung everywhere. Suddenly, Cassandra pointed to a large screen. “They are
polluting the water in Victoria Harbour! See!” she exclaimed. Reaching for her phone, she took a video of
the whole control room and zoomed the screen to the large panel. “Who are you? What are you guys doing
here? Where is my father?” Cassandra’s honey blond curls with brown streaks whirled as she stopped taking
videos and turned. Facing her was a teenager boy, perhaps nineteen or twenty.
Albert broke the tension by a gasp and a pointed finger. “Oh! Cass, maybe we should go! We are
dealing with the heir of Tiliter Company" “Great! You know me! But I preferred to be called Benjamin or
Ben than the heir, thank you. Would you guys like a cup of coffee and explain why are you here?” His coal
black eyes were stormy.
In the guest room, they were served with cups of iced latte. They introduced themselves and
Benjamin was enchanted by Cassandra’s tidy manner, her beauty, and also fluent Cantonese. After a while,
they went directly to the serious problem. “About the tube……”Cassandra’s voice trailed.” “Yes, I know
about it. I tried to find my father and talked about it today, but he was nowhere to be seen.”Benjamin
exclaimed. “Actually, this is an easy problem to fix.” Albert piped up.
“Then how? Stuff a cloth to stop the tube?”Benjamin asked, frustrated.
“Of course not! The pressure and force will press the cloth out!” Albert said. Under his breath, he
muttered.”How dumb are you?”
During the small little argument between Albert and Benjamin, Cassandra was poking on her
phone. “What we need is an enormous filter. By the videos and photos I’ve taken, I did a 3-D scan, and I
found out that the tube was shaped like a cuboid, but ends like a cone. At the end of it, it’s a square with the
dimension of 50 cm on each side. Do you have any cuboid or cube shape barrels? We can make a filter and
that way, we can decrease chemicals released in the sea. Or simply, just stop the water from passing through
the tube. Collect the polluted water and give it to the water filtration centre to deal with it. Both is fine!
What do you think?” They all agreed to the second method.
After two hours of ordering and discussing, Benjamin called his dad. His father finally arrived to the
guest room and was surprised to see the guests. They took turns scolding Jacto and explained the situation.
After the whole process, Jacto apologized and promised to earn more money, as he had been polluting the
