om, you shouldn’t come here! Look what happened to us!” I cried as she tried to untie
the ropes that fastened Hilary’s hands together. “For goodness sake, stop complaining.
I’m helping your sister!” my mother groaned.

The Disappearance
It all started on a wet, humid day in Hong Kong. Our whole family went there on vacation. We
were having a lunch of dumplings with soup noodles when I realized that my elder sister, Hilary, was gone!
“Hilary, where are you?” I hollered as I left my parents. “Hannah, don’t go!” they yelled, but I
was already far from their sight.
I ran through shops and sprinted across streets shouting her name. Just then, I heard a voice.
“Follow the cat and you will find her.” it said. A black kitten came out of nowhere, trotted to an alley and
then it vanished.

In Combat
“Stay away!” a hand shoved me away from the alley. It was Hilary! Then I noticed a man in
Chinese celestial robes carrying weapons with a sinister smile on his face. “Boss will be so pleased once I’ve
defeated you!” he uttered. “Well,” Hilary spoke with an unfamiliar tone, “let’s see if you’re right.”
Instantly, the stranger held up his weapons and charged at my sister! I thought she would be a goner, but
she disappeared! “Ouch!” the man winced in pain and fell down. Above him was Hilary, hovering in
mid-air with her fist out.
“How……how did ……you do that……” The man stammered. Hilary responded, “With lots of
experience and hard work on my martial arts skills.” “I admit defeat.” He muttered. However, as he turned
his back, I saw a glint of anger in his eyes “Um, Sis? I think we should go now.” I murmured. “Not so
fast!” the mysterious stranger made an abrupt turn and let go of some rope. “Uh oh, this isn’t good.” I
thought.

Caught!
“This rope is no ordinary thing.” The man said, “This is magic. Wherever you go, it will follow
you!” Then he cackled with glee. My sister tried to stop it, but the rope fastened itself at her wrists!
“Hey! What are you doing with my sister?” I shouted. Instead of stopping the stranger, I got my
hands tied up too. The man threatened, “You’re lucky that I didn’t kill you two!” Then he went away
proudly.
“What are we going to do? He’ll kill us soon! We’ll die. Do something…...” I talked until I had
to gasp for air. Hilary whispered, “Stop panicking, or else I can’t help you at all!” Then she closed her
eyes. Suddenly, I felt so exhausted that I thought that I saw Hilary’s hair turned black. Then I knew
nothing more.

Who is This?
When I woke up, Hilary was still there, closing her eyes, chanting weird incantations. Her hair
was blonde as usual, that I queried if I had a hallucination before I fainted. The sky had already turned dark
but no one could find us. The moment this thought popped into my mind, Mom and Dad came.
“Hilary, Hannah! Thank goodness you’re alright!” Mom hugged us tightly then found out about
the ropes.
“Mom, you shouldn’t come here! Look what happened to us!” I cried as she tried to untie the
ropes that fastened Hilary’s hands together. “For goodness sake, stop complaining. I’m helping your sister!”
my mother groaned.
Hilary opened her eyes. “Thank you, but I think I can handle this.” As if by magic, the ropes fell
apart. “Who……who are……you?” Dad stuttered. “Allow me to introduce ourselves. We were mother
and daughter in our past lives.” Mom found this hard to believe.
“Excuse me Robert,” Mom whispered to Dad, “I think I need to talk to them alone.” Dad
strolled away. “But you’re my dear Hilary……,” she continued. “Of course I’m Hilary!” Hilary changed
