Meanwhile, the rest of the villagers congratulated Cynthia, amazed by what she knew, while other
people guarded the bandits. Turning to her parents, they smiled from ear to ear and said, “You were right;
studying did help you. You can continue learning!”
Squealing, Cynthia jumped into her parents’ arms. The villagers crowded around, asking her to
teach them. Grinning, Cynthia replied, “Of course!” As the sun rose slowly, the villagers returned to their
homes. Her mother turned to her and said, “Cynthia, I think you know why I didn’t let you learn. I
apologize, because I have realized that even if I hardly know about what you read, having you know will
help us. I understand your passion for studying, and I hope you will forgive me.”
Cynthia turned to her mom, “Thank you. Would you like me to teach you too?”
“Of course!” Her mother exclaimed. And with that, they linked arms and skipped back to their
house, mother and daughter.
