y father and I had a nice and peaceful life. We loved being merchants, traveling across the lands
and meeting people.
When the full moon had just entered the sky, a blaring shriek echoed across the entire
Pearl River Delta. I scrambled down from the riverbank to check out what was happening. Everyone
crowded around our tent. Inside my tent, everything was messed up. The bed was flipped and scrolls were
ripped. The worst thing was, Father was nowhere to be found. As I stood there, dazed in disbelief, I tried to
get everything clear. My mind was messy, and I had no idea what was going on.
The thought of Dad being kidnapped swarmed around me, and choked me. I was all alone, for
Mother passed away a few days after I was born. Determined to find Father, I searched around the whole
area.
I rummaged through our tent, until a old-looking scroll dropped from Dad’s clothes I recognized
it, because Father was reading it the day before. As I carefully opened the scroll, there was a letter written
from “Lord Shu”.
I went carefully through every single tiny word. It was a letter addressed to Dad. The man was
about how much research he had done on Lord Lui, his so called, enemy. He asked if his spying job was
going smoothly. He said that Dad had to research about what they were doing now, so he included a map of
Lord Lui’s base.
As I went through the map, there was a huge X. Beside the X, it said: “Lreap Revir Atled, under
the big cave.” What was this? What type of language was Lreap Revir Atled? I went all around the village to
find out, but no one knew, until I met the oldest and wisest women in the town, “Ma Thou Nan”.
Her back was hunched, and her face was filled with wrinkles. When she met me, a warm smile
spread across her mouth. Her eyes twinkled with knowledge as I told her the story. While I told her the
story, she carefully listened. When I told her about Lreap Revire Atled, she laughed. Then, she said, “Trace
back to go further.”
She winked and wished me luck. Though I was confused, I thanked her, and
continued on my journey.
I only wanted to go on with the case, but I knew I had to go back to solve the mystery. Learp
Revire Atled was still a mystery. Look back, backwards? I traced my footsteps back, until I reached to shore
of the Pearl River Delta. That was when I understood. Lreap Revir Atled, the Pearl River Delta! The cave
beside the Pearl River Delta!
. My footsteps crushed the sand as I looked around, and finally spotted a cave. Now I knew the
place where the kidnappers had taken Dad. There was a large stone blocking the entrance. There were 3
strong and buff guards. I knew I, just a 15 year old boy, couldn’t do this task alone.
I remembered a village, Deku, near this place, where Dad taught them how to irrigate crops. I
purchased a donkey from this village, and traveled to Deku. It was a 3-hour, uncomfortable ride. When I
got thereI explained the situation (and they were willing to help, for they wanted to repay the favour we did
for them. They sent 6 strong men from the village. They were: Lui En Ze, Luo Kai Ming, Shu Shang Han,
Li Tai Xi, Li Hai Ren, and Lu Xun Tian. As the hooves of our horses pushed the sand, our shadows headed
closer to the Pearl River Delta.
We arrived as the sun rose, and we peered at the clear water in the delta. We whispered in secrecy,
and discussed our plans. As we wished each other luck, four strong men started making their way to the
guards. Lui En Ze’s shoulders were spread widely, and a vicious smile filled his face. As soon as the 4 men
arrived, the guards shook in fear. Pinning the men down, the villager’s eyes were filled with courage. Now,
the time had come for the Li Tai Xi, Li Hai Ren, and I to get to action. We tried to move the stone, but it
didn’t budge. Exactly nothing happened. I shivered, wondering how and when I would get in the cave, and
wondered what was happening to Father right now. We started encouraging each other, and tried again.
Thanks to our strength, the stone shifted a very little bit. Creak, creak, finally, we moved the “door”.
The others guarded the cave, while I tiptoed gently into the cave, trying not to make a single
sound. I crept farther into the cave until I saw Dad. He was tied up in a chair. I untied the complicated
knot, and hugged Dad with all my might. Then, we heard the footsteps thumping across the floor, so we ran
out of the cave. Li Tai Xi, Li Hai Ren, and Shu Shang Han closed the entrance of the cave, and we tied
