o you know where the Great Wall is? It is in China. But do you know the other things about the Great
Wall such as when did the Great Wall built?
It is one of the greatest wonders of the world; it was a World Heritage by UNESCO in1987. It
looks like a gigantic dragon. It winds up and down across deserts, grasslands, mountains and plateaus.
It was approximately eight thousand, eight hundred and fifty-two kilometers; it is about five thousand
and five hundred miles.
Do you know who built the Great Wall? Most of the people say that the Dragon King built the Great Wall.
But that is wrong! He did not build the Great Wall. Let’s read the story about the Great Wall:
Many people thought that the Dragon King built the Great Wall. Actually, in the Spring and Autumn
Period (770-476B.C.), it had already begun the construction.
At that time, all country needed to build a big castle and they also built a big wall to protect the enemies. It
was built to defend the Chinese Empire from Mongolian and other invaders. The construction started in the
seventh Century BCE, but most of the Great Wall we see today was built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
It is the longest fortification ever built.
But after that there was no hexarchy and the walls that they built were no use. They had just only kept
Xiongnu out.
The Dragon King, the ruler of the Qin Dynasty (221-206 B.C.), built his first wall for protect the country
from the other enemies.
But then, bad things happened, Xiongnu coveted Central Plains’ money and they took away a big piece of
land when two countries were on the lane. In 215 B.C., the Dragon King’s army attacked Xiongnu and got back
two big pieces of land. Then the Dragon King thought, “Although we have expelled the Xiongnu, we still need
to beware of them. Let me order some people to build a big long wall, then the Xiongnu could not come in.” So,
he ordered some workers and some of the villagers to build the big wall.
Later, the Dragon King wanted the wall to be longer so the enemies could not attack them from the other
side. He used the walls that the hexarchy left and built some new walls and put them together to make them
longer. It pasted the Inner Mongolia. It twists and turns. It was five thousand kilometers long.
There were more than twenty dynasties and countries constructed the wall and all of them were nicer than
the old wall that the Dragon King built. The ruler of the Ming Dynasty valued the wall’s construct most. He
constructed the wall three times which were in a big scale. About 1500, all constructs were finished. It was even
longer this time. It was from Gansu to Shanhai Pass. It pasted through Ningxia, Shaanxi, Inner Mongolia,
Shanxi and more province. It was six thousand and three thousand kilometers long. It shows the Chinese
nation’s intelligence and our history’s witness.
Do you know what the wall is made of? It is made of bricks and stones. Inside it is much yellow soil.
Some of the soldiers stand needed to send a warning when they saw enemies: They burned the woods to let the
people who were at another side.
Now, many tourists like to go there, do you know why? There are two reasons: there is a sentence that
people often say, ‘One is not a true until man he travels to the Great Wall!’ This sentence means this person
does not lazy and hard working; you can use this sentence to inspire or give him or her support. And the reason
is: it is the only building that we can see on the moon. It shows that the Great Wall is very magnificent and
grand. It is also very high. Maybe you think that is impossible but it has reported on the news.
The Great Wall is the greatest construction in the China history. From many years ago, the Great Wall has
been one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. The average of the Great Wall’s height is seven point eight
meters. The average of its wide is six point five meters.
What will the Great Wall look like in the future? Even longer? Or nothing changed? We are not sure. But
there is one thing that we know clearly: The Great Wall will NOT pull down. Because we will protect the Great
Wall, so it will never be destroyed. We are all Chinese, we are from China, we must protect and let the Great
Wall still be the New Seven Wonders of the World and let the tourists can still visit our old ‘building’ and we
are very proud of the Great Wall.
In the future, I want to go to the Great Wall too because I want to see is the Great Wall - so big and so
long. I am a Chinese too. I want to stand on this Great Wall that is made by all people in the old town at the past.
Although it is pasted through many dynasties, the Great Wall is still here and keeps well. However, it is still one
of the appealing attractions in the world, wowing visitors with the Great Wall’s architectural grandeur and
