New Tales of the Great Wall
Kwan Ding Nok Jocelyn Group 2: Non-Fiction, North Point Methodist Primary School
ave you been to the Great Wall of China before? Ms Qi, my putonghua teacher, was from Beijing.
She gave us a lesson about the Great Wall. Now, I like to tell you something about it.
The Great Wall is approximately 8,852 km long in total. It's average height is 7.8 m , and the
average width is 6.5 m. It is like a gigantic dragon. It winds up and down across deserts, grasslands,
mountains and plateaus. The Great Wall was first built from rammed earth, stones and wood. During the Ming
Dynasty, bricks, tiles and lime were introduced to use as materials to build the Great Wall.
Let me tell you something about the history of the Great Wall. It was built more than two thousand years
ago. The use of the Great Wall was to defend the Chinese Empire from Mongolian and other invaders. However,
it became one of the most appealing attractions in the world now.
I have an interesting thing I like to share with you. I was told that the Great Wall can be seen from space
with the naked eye. Can you believe it?
There are too many things that I want to know about the Great Wall. Therefore, I am planning to have a trip
to Beijing with my friends in the summer time. Why don't you join us?
