One day, they found a large hole in the middle of the oasis, inside a forest of coconut trees. It
was very deep that no bottom could be seen. A stone was thrown into it, but terribly, no sound
was heard to indicate there was a bottom. Since they had gone through every place in the island,
except this hole, they decided to make the final adventure.
One of them first jumped into the hole, the other follow. At first, they were able to chat with
each other, consciously, but soon after, they were unable to respond and were forced to fall asleep.
They fell and fell and fell, not knowing how long they had gone. When they awoke again, they
found that the environment had not changed, except, the weather. It was no longer hot in the
desert during the daytime, and it was even a bit cool! Even more, they had a strange feeling. They
felt that the sky was going to collapse and the world was going to end. They wanted to leave the
oasis immediately.
Bringing with them enough amount of water and food, they went to their own trained camel
and rode at full speed to one single direction. They believed that this could one day bring them
out of this horrible place. During their ride, they found that the earth was no longer the one they
were familiar with. The sky was grey in color and covered with fog. Although it was in the desert,
it was very humid and the visibility was very low. The sand was not yellow in color but nearly
dark in color. They were very surprised above this.
One week later, though still deep in the desert, Dave and John could already see some
artificial infrastructures. There were guides on the ground, leading people to the way out. At a
distance from them, they could even see some ordinary cars flying high up in the sky, similar to
an airplane. At this instant, they started to suspect that they had travelled to another time point.
They were in the future!
Soon after, a police officer landed his flying car beside their camels.
“Do you need any help? No one would go into a desert now!” The police officer asked Dave
and John.
“We got lost! Could you take us back to the middle of the town?” Dave and John replied.
“Sure!” The police said.
In the police car, Dave recognized that the driver of the car was his troop commander!
“Do you remember me? I am Dave, previously a member in your troop.” Dave asked.
“My Troop? Oh! I remember. You just disappeared during your mission to China. I thought you
were already dead. Why are you here?”
Dave told the police his story.
“It was the hole! The hole gave you the power of time-traveling!”
“I don’t look much older, do I?”
“No, you were just as young as that before. That is so amazing! You see, our world has
changed so much, not only the technological advancement, but also the alterations of the
environment.”
“Yes. Global warming has caused extreme weather. The desert is no longer hot! That is why
the idea of environmental protection must be promoted. I would set this as my goal in the future
and use my experience to influence others.”
