Hong Kong Then and Now

n the year 1851, in the harbour beside a small village on Hong Kong island, there were three cousins who
lived together on a fishing boat.Their names were Dai Kam, Dai Ngan,Ah Fok.
Like most children, the cousins helped their parents go fishing every day. One day, something extraordinary
happened.They met a man with a time machine who said they could go visit the future.They got in the time
machine, put on their seat belts, and were ready to go.“It might be bumpy, ” the man warned.
In a moment they were in the year 2015, standing in the middle ofVictoria Park.They saw tall buildings all
around them, and roads full of cars and buses.“Wow, these buildings are bigger than Punti Temples, ” said Dai
Kam.
Nearby, two girls were having a picnic, and saw the cousins.
“Who are you?Where did you come from?” asked Nicole and Charmaine, who had never seen people
wearing such funny clothes.
“We are Dai Kam, Dai Ngan,Ah Fok, and we came from 1851 in a time machine, ” they answered.
“I'm thirsty, is there a stream nearby?” asked Ah Fok. Nicole took him to a water fountain and showed him
how to use it.Ah Fok was amazed by how easy it was to get water.
Nicole said they could sleep at her house, and offered to guide them around town. Nicole stopped a taxi, but
Dai Ngan was scared to get in. “What is that?” she asked.“It's a car, ” said Charmaine. When they got to
Nicole's house it was dinner time already.
After dinner Nicole gave them all ice-cream cones and switched on the TV.When Dai Kam got his, he asked
“what is this cold dripping stuff. I've never seen it before!” Nicole answered “It's ice cream, silly, but be careful,
it's frozen.”All of the cousins tried to touch the people in the TV screen, because they thought the people
were real.
The next day the cousins woke up at sunrise and went to walk around town.They saw so many tall buildings,
and got completely lost. Dai Ngan had a lot of questions that Nicole could not even answer.“Where are the
forests?Where have all the tigers gone?”They walked a long way before they got to the harbour, and the
crowds of people were pushing them.
“Where have all the fishing boats gone?” "Why is there so much land?”
At 8: 00, Nicole had to go to school.The cousins were amazed by how beautiful and big the school was.
None of them had ever been to school before.
Suddenly Dai Ngan remembered the time.“We have to go back to the time machine, ” he said.“Thanks for
helping and teaching us.”After saying goodbye they rushed back to the time machine and went back to 1851.
When they arrived, the sun was just going down, so they took their fishing nets, thanked the man, and went
fishing.
