Jimmy gasped and stammered, “How…how can you talk? And you don’t understand, I’m no
saviour, I’m just an amateur explorer.”
The golden eagle sighed, “He still is as ignorant as the other humans. We animals all know
your simple language, we only speak it when we want to. I’m Oscar, the eagle that saved you from
dying. Would I have done that if I hadn’t known you were the one? Along with the others, we
form the Defenders Of Gobi (D.O.G). We protect the Gobi from the dangers it faces. Right now, the
danger is the Mongolian Death Worm.”
Jimmy swallowed and asked, “Then what can I do?”
A marbled polecat chirped, “You must slay the beast and retrieve the Eye of the Gobi, a
sparkling orange gem, only then will the Gobi be safe.”
A bactrian camel also said slowly, “Its base is not far from here, if you hop on my back, you’ll
be there in half an hour.”
Jimmy did as he was told and he soon arrived at a huge pit——— the death worm’s home. Oscar
swooped down from above, giving Jimmy a gun that it stole from the bandits. Jimmy accepted
it gratefully and also pulled out a dagger from his sock. When he turned back again, they had
already fled in fright, leaving him all alone. For slitering out of the pit was none other than the
Mongolian Death Worm itself.
The worm hissed in a reptalian voice, ”Who dares to come into my territory? Do you not fear
my might?”
It wriggled its dark red body out of the pit and opened its foaming mouth. It was a hideous
sight, with no visible eyes or ears, it looked like a colossal salami with an even bigger mouth.
Jimmy yelled, “To save the animals of the Gobi, I must destroy you.”
The worm gave a high-pitched screech which Jimmy assumed to be a laugh. “Kill me? That
would be impossible and of no use. The biggest threat to the Gobi is never me. I guess you know
who they are, Mr.Saviour. If I am accused of killing some humans and animals, your species
should be accused of terminating the world.”
Jimmy fired a shot at the worm, the bullet simply bounced off its body. It gave a menacing
snarl and lunged at Jimmy. Jimmy ducked aside and fired a few rounds at the creature, but they
were like mosquito bites to the creature.
“It was nice playing with you but I’m afraid this game is about to end.” A whole vat of acid
burst out from its mouth towards Jimmy. Jimmy had barely enough time to dodge the attack but
acid still splashed on his left arm and vaporised his gun. Jimmy ignored the burning acid and
with an inhuman roar, thrust his knife into the worm’s only weak point ——— its mouth. The knife
slit open the worm from the inside out.
As the beast lay dying, it muttered its final words, “You have not triumphed, the orange gem
will only bring war to the Gobi, animals and humans will die in great numbers, the sand of the
Gobi will be dyed blood red.” With a hysterical laugh, it died.
Seeing that the worm was dead, the cowardly animals scuttled and crowded round its carcass.
Jimmy, however, scurried into the pit to find the orange gem. It was dark and the death worm
venom oozed down there. Jimmy didn’t care, nothing could scare him after the battle with the
Mongolian Death Worm. He successfully scaled the pit and reached the surface, holding the gem
in his right hand. Oscar swooped down and snatched it from his hand.
Jimmy couldn’t help shaking his hands at the sky and yelled at the top of his voice, “Where
were all of you when I was battling the worm, hiding in a safe place? You left me all alone and
