the meantime, Dino flipped himself over and dug a hole to take a sunbath.
DK sighed and patted me on my shoulder and said, ‘ n some way, I’d like to be an animal
instead of a human being. At least they don’t know what is going on, and they have no worries.’
I nodded my head to show my agreement, however, I disagreed with the idea that a worry-free
creature cannot experience what was real life.
We planned to stay at the Oasis for a couple of days in order to let our bodies recover and then
proceed with our mission to find the way to return to the modern life.
I slept while DK was standing guard to ensure our safety. I dreamt. The dream was so strange
as I could see what was happening in our modern life. I could se my flat burning, my parents were
anxious because they could not find me, but I didn’t know the reason. The other day I had asked
DK whether he could see what I had seen. He shook his head and said that he didn’t. I became
curious about that. Maybe I was just too suspicious. Thus, I ignored this critical clue.
After the mysterious dream, we settled down the victims died of hunger and thirst then
started to go to the East for the exit. When we were walking on the hot golden sand, Dino stopped
at one point and it kept growling to catch our eye. When we turned our head around, we found
something with a tiny little red tip showing was buried beneath the sand. We dug a hole along it
and wanted to take it out and also have a look at it. It exposed more and more until we could take
it out and see the whole picture. To my surprise, it was not the thing that we had expected, which
could save our lives, but it was only a diary, with a red cover, just actually the same as that one
in my home. At the beginning, I didn’t pay a lot of attention to it, but later on I started writing
something in it.
Maybe it was just my subjective feeling. I always had a sense that the diary would be
paramount to us, no matter what the circumstances. As a result, I decided to protect it at all costs.
Notwithstanding the possibility of death, I just want to bring us back to the modern world.
Time faded, we had almost been to here for a week. Was anything waiting for us?
Was the end of this maze a deadly hell or the fabulous Eden?
Someone was writing in my diary. There were some sentences written down. They were very
familiar. They described a situation just the same as what I had jotted down in mine. Was it
just a coincidence? An image scrolled up and down. The person’s appearance was blurred, and I
could only hardly see him. To my surprise, he was quite familiar to me. He looked like one of my
relatives, and I eventually could recognize him as my father and standing behind him was my
mom. The image came to an end and I woke up. I searched the surrounding area. There was only
sand, endless sand My diary was still there. No one had touched it. Was that only a dream?
‘Look there is another Oasis over there!’ I said excitedly. What I said had the power to pull us
out of the black hole of depression. We were like a hungry tigers attracted by delicious prey. We
dashed to the Oasis. On arriving, we found a lot of vegetation and it was like heaven. We decided
to use the abundant raw materials to build a tree house. We distributed our jobs co-operatively,
I was responsible for the knotting and building part, as I had won a prize in an external scout
competition. Dk was the muscular man and he was responsible for the logistical job, Because of
his sharp teeth, Dino was our axe and cutter. With the sweat over 3 of us, the house was finally
built. We used our imagination to make it a five-star hotel. We checked in and took a rest. Before
I went to bed, I wrote down what we had encountered today in the diary since this had been the
first time for me to practically use what I had learnt as a scout.
I could see my parents again, they seemed to be so pleased when they saw the diary. They
nodded their heads and exclaimed, ‘our son is marvelous, he can build a house himself, I am so
