Fiction: Group 2
“Of sorts, yes. I have come to give you a quest.” replied the pale female figure. She was a translucent white
colour that glowed faintly. “What? What do you mean? Where are we? What is even going on?” asked Lily,
looking very confused.
“You’ve been chosen to seal the gap. There is a rip in time, and you have to close it.”
Whaaat?”
thought Ivy.
“In the universe, there are separate dimensions. Every one is essential, and a rip in one could mean the end
of it. You’ll repair this by finding the gate and closing it. You have qualities that will guide you through. I
cannot reveal more, apart from that what you are looking for is not what you think it is. Farewell, and may
you be successful in your mission.” The misty figure dissipated, leaving the girls alone.
Again, the world dissolved and reappeared as a barren landscape. ”So we have to find a gate and close it.”
concluded Ivy. “If what’s at stake is the universe then we’d better get going!”
So they trudged on forever in search of the gate. The thing that kept them going for so long was the
thought of how many lives depended on them, and of their parents, friends and everybody else they loved.
Finally, it was too much. They stopped, exhausted not by the heat or fatigue, but of the lack of results. After
hours, the girls had still found nothing. Dismayed, Ivy told a story. “I’ve heard of a legend that tells of a
woman whose husband and son were important military officials or something. Some guys wanted to kidnap
them, but they needed the son and husband’s whereabouts. But the wife, rather than telling, jumped off a
diaolou.”
“We have to keep going! What did she die for if the world ends? Loads of people sacrificed themselves, and
for different reasons! We gotta do this!” exclaimed Rose, energetic again.
With that, the sisters got up and continued, using Rose’s words as support. Whenever they became weary,
all it took was a thought of how important their job was to keep them going. Lily would reassure them that
everything would be okay, just like when the sisters were little. Then Rose asked “What does it mean to
live?”
Expecting a scientific answer from Ivy as usual, Rose was surprised when Lily said,”I think everything,
including life, should have a little bit of adventure, or difference. Right now, there is a problem in the
universe and we have to fix it. If everything was perfect, life would be boring.”
“Yeah, because nothing is perfect.” added Ivy. “One thing can’t exist without the other, like good and
evil.”
And with this thought, they remembered the ghost’s words. They weren't looking for what they thought it
was... Looking up, they could see their parents and friends. The dry landscape around them dissolved into
scenes of happiness and sadness, places and events they could only barely remember. Then those scenes
became unfamiliar like war, peace, love and much more in icy landscapes, damp forests and countless others.
This is the world,”
thought Ivy. Then they saw stars and galaxies. They felt it. They
knew
it. This was
their world, their universe, their life. Then the diaolou rematerialized before their very eyes, with the ghost
in front of them.
