ime to wake up,” said an old man loudly, “It’s already six in the morning.”
“I’m coming. Wait a second, Dad,” replied a young kid.
The child jumped off his bed and dashed to the sink to tidy himself up. He then
dressed quickly. His clothing could not have been simpler, dungarees and a cap.
When the truck came, the kid and his father got on and headed to the mine in Oyu Tolgoi.
Oyu Tolgoi is a place with a large deposit of copper and gold, where people had created mines
across the desert. Nobody came to Oyu Tolgoi unless they had business to finish. The lives of the
workers in Oyu Tolgoi mines were the same every day: wake up and dress, work, and then go back
“home”. These workers had “homes”, but there was no difference between the homes and huts.
On the truck, a men asked the kid, “How’re you doing, Lucas?”
“Absolutely fine, thank you,” replied Lucas. “Dad, can you please tell me about my past, I have
longed to know my past for almost ten years, and all you have told me is that I was found on the
street. I don’t believe that.”
Two trucks appeared behind some rocks next to the road. A man with cloth covering his face
held up a rifle. The other truck forced the truck to stop on the road. Its passengers came out. The
attackers pointed guns at the workers and told them to take out all of their belongings.
After taking all the loot they could find, the attackers began executing the workers. The first
gun had fired.
“Bang!”A young Chinese woman lay in front of Lucas, lifeless. Blood came out of the bullet
hole on her body. Her face was so familiar, and Lucas cried loudly. Lying next to the woman was
a dead young man. The man holding a pistol came closer. He pointed his gun at Lucas. At the
moment he was going to pull the trigger, he looked behind him. A police car was approaching and
the siren sounded louder and louder. The man ran away in fear.
A worker died. Another worker was about to die. Lucas’s dad was the one after the second
worker. Even though Lucas’s father was about to die, Lucas still wanted to know what happened in
the flashback.
He asked his father, “Dad, I need to know what happened in the house where a murderer killed
a man and a woman.”
“You remember this! I really didn’t want to let you know, but since you remember, I’ll tell you
now. The man and the woman in the room were your birth parents. Your old home is in China,
Shanxi,” Dad said. “But don’t be afraid. You are not alone; you have a brother. He-”
His father lay in front of Lucas lifelessly. He was dead, the only person who knew about
Lucas’s past.
An attacker stood in front of Lucas, pointing his gun at him. Lucas was going to die. But Lucas
