Fiction: Group 2
In the fifth year, the Goddess of Sunset decided to set off looking for the five liars. On her way, she
met the giant who had guarded the treasure troves. When they found out that they were looking for the
same people, they travelled together.
The fishing villages were very different. People were rich and happy. The five brothers each had a
big house and were married with family. When the Goddess of Sunset and the giant appeared before them,
they were frightened and stunned. Knowing that their happy days may end, the five brothers and their wives
pondered for days and came up with a wicked plan.
The wife of the first brother told the Goddess of Sunset that her magic paintbrush was hidden in
the treasure trove in the south and that the giant was supposed to guard it. The angry goddess hurried off.
When the wife of the second brother told the giant that the Goddess of Sunset was on her way to
break into the treasure trove in the South, the raging giant stormed off.
At the treasure trove, the Goddess ransacked the entire place for her magic paintbrush. When the
giant saw that, he thought she was stealing his treasure. Without hesitation, he challenged the Goddess to a
duel.
Their fight lasted for ninety-nine days and nights. All the treasure troves collapsed. Yet, they were
still fighting. The Leader of Gods and Goddesses was furious to see the treasure troves reduced to rubble. He
turned it into a tall mountain, with the Goddess of Sunset and giant trapped inside it. The two angry
immortals are believed to be fighting to this day.
The mountain covered some parts of the Sea because the Leader of Gods and Goddesses wanted to
teach those greedy and dishonest people a lesson. The number of fish decreased rapidly. Soon, the fishermen
were poor again, but they did not fight anymore. They planted fruit trees and bamboo on the mountain.
Very often, the fishermen could still hear weak echoes coming from inside the mountain, especially at
sunset, when the Goddess of Sunset was at the height of her rage.
Soon after, the villagers named the mountain Mount Danxia, as “Danxia” means “Sunset”.
Generation after generation, the mountain stood as a reminder to the people, warning them against greed
and dishonesty.
