HKBUAS Primary School, Liu, Ray - 9, Fiction: Group 2
Prologue
long, long time ago, at the end of Ming dynasty, the Manchurians conquered China. The
Manchurians wanted something very valuable—the pearl of truth, which was forged from the
waters of Pearl River delta. Legend told that whoever looked inside saw his true self. The guardian,
a wise general hid it in what is now the basement of the IFC. He wrote the story on a piece of paper, which
he then hid in a library. Then he went to battle the Manchurians one last time.
Chapter 1. The finding
The intrepid explorer Allan Quatermain and his friends were reading in his house. Allan opened an antique
book, and a piece of paper fell out. It was yellow with age. There were words written on it. “I have hidden
the pearl of truth in the clear water harbor. May my decedents look after it and give it to someone worthy
of it.” Zhou Yang. The explorers went quiet; you could hear a pin drop. Then Henry Curtis, Allan’s friend,
said: “I heard of the pearl and the general before. They are famous! As for the clear water harbor, it should
be Hong Kong. We’ll go at once! ” Outside, a man in a mask laughed, a cruel mean laugh, and took out his
cell phone...
Chapter 2. Maverick’s plot
Miles away in a ramshackle house shadows moved around. They belonged to Maverick, the maniac, and his
troop of escaped convicts. Maverick said: “Our spy has returned with news of a priceless treasure—the
precious pearl of truth. According to our spy, it is hidden in Hong Kong. We can find it, sell it, and
become billionaires!” A wave of ugly cheering arose, and they marched out to their boat, heading to Hong
Kong.
Chapter 3. Hopelessness
In the meantime, Allan and the explorers arrived at Hong Kong. They asked local rural fishermen if they
knew about the pearl of truth. But the fishermen thought they were mad, and firmly showed them to the
door. Trickles of sweat ran down Allan’s forehead, because he was in the sun for so long. He didn’t give up
easily: the treasure must be here somewhere, but where?
Chapter 4. The kidnapping
While Allan sweated it out, Maverick and his gang kidnapped a man in his eighties and questioned him. As
luck would have it, this man was a decedent of the general. Maverick was equipped with a lot of torturing
tools, and after many screams, the tough old man finally gave up the location of the pearl and the villains left
for the IFC.
Chapter 5. The chamber of horrors
The villains arrived and rushed into the basement of the IFC. Suddenly, a voice spoke, a deep hoarse voice:
“Enter stranger, but take heed, for what awaits the sin of greed, for it you seek a treasure in our lands, a
treasure that was never worthy of your hands. A terrible fate awaits you, a terrible fate awaits you.” The
villains were trampling each other to get to the door, but Maverick scoffed: “stuff and nonsense, load of old
tosh, we’re not afraid!” Then he rounded up the villains, and forced them to approach a door that said:
“Here the truth lies”. They opened it, but a flap of leathery wings stopped them in their tracks. A dragon
fangs bared, stepped out of the shadows—the general’s last, desperate defense.
