Gobi examined the man with great interest and gave a snort to reply, even though he did not
understood what he meant. ‘You can stay here as long as you like. Hope we can be friends if you
like.’ And there went a pause, ‘ Oh what was I talking about anyway? It cannot happen.’
The man signed, stood up and went to the straw mat and fell asleep quickly.
The next day, Gobi felt much better and he started to wandering outside the man’s house.
The house was made of a mixture of clay and mud, which can be destroyed within a second by
his powerful tail. But Gobi did not do that, even though he was taught to destroy all houses my
his parents. Gobi did not know why, he was just not into destroying things now, especially this
man’s property.
The door flung opened and the man stepped out. ‘Good morning dragon. Want some
breakfast?’ He spoke between yawns. Gobi tilted his head aside and gave another snort. He was
hungry indeed, without eating for days after the horrible fight with the humans. But wait a
minute, wasn’t there a walking meatball in front of him he can eat to fill his stomach?
‘Come on. You stay here, I’ll go get some meat for you,’ the man said. But Gobi followed him
secretly and approaching him carefully and search for a place to bite. Suddenly the man stopped
and turned around, seeing Gobi’s jaws opened a little and freezed after the man turned and looked
at him in surprise.
‘Dragon. It’s going to be fine. Stay there alright? I will be back soon,’ the man ordered
quietly. Gobi backed off and licked his lips in embarrassment because of the failing of his plan.
The man left.
The people in the village were all in a hot debate about the fall of the strongest tribe in the land.
‘From now on there will be enough food and shelters for everybody! How nice!’ An old man
exclaimed after hearing the news.
‘But they had always been here to keep the enemies away, now they are gone. Are we really
going to be fine afterwards?’ A woman chattered beside the drink bar.
Meanwhile, the man sneaked into one of the meat selling store and asked for a large piece of
meat. ‘This is a pretty large one. What are you going to do with such a big piece of meat? That’s
very unlike you … ‘ The shop owner questioned. ‘Oh its no big deal, just for my … pet?’ The man
replied with a red face. Then he ran off with the meat quickly and ended the conversation.
After an anxious journey from the village, the man finally reached his house and put down
the piece of meat for Gobi. Gobi quickly gobbled the meat and looked at the man with satisfaction.
‘Now I am all out of money. Maybe I should try to catch a sheep to sell it to the villagers.’
The man said to himself and picked up his gun. Gobi immediately gave a loud roar and raised
his wings in dismay. He remembered that thing which hurt him so badly. The man threw his gun
on the ground and calmed Gobi down. Gobi stopped growling and observed the man quietly. The
man took a long rope and made a trap, in which delicious fresh apples were placed in the middle.
Before he was able to finish the trap, a sheep ran passed and the man quickly jerked up and
chased after it. Gobi watched him curiously. At last the man was exhausted and sat on the grass
with heavy breathings. The sheep was chewing the apples happily since the trap did not work with
the sheep standing outside the trap and did not trigger it. Suddenly, Gobi crept toward the sheep
silently, bounced on the sheep and trapped it in his long claws.
The man watched in astonishment. Quickly he stood up and tied a piece of rope to the neck
of the sheep and held the other end of the rope tightly. They did it. Although it was just a sheep,
it seemed that the understanding between the man and Gobi had improved and their distance
