elena was a teenager, at about fifteen years old who was interested in Geography and
Geology – Her parents were archaeologists. They explored places where not many
people have been to, such as, deserts, mountains, ice caps, etc. Also, they had to find
historical remains in the places they had explored to show evidences that people or
animals have been lived there before.
One summer, Helena and her parents’ dream finally came true. They had saved up enough
money for the trip to Gobi desert. Helena was in a cheerful mode. She wanted to explore
geological elements of the Gobi desert.
They packed a lot of essential things, like food and water since they might run out of them in
the desert. Also, they brought a lot of warm clothes because they temperature difference in the
morning and night in desert is extreme. They brought other stuff like shovels and pails to collect
specimen of historical remains, scarf to cover up the head when there is an Asian Dust attack,
remedy for poisonous animals, bites, etc. After several checks on the things they needed to bring,
they finally started their journey to Gobi Desert.
They traveled a long way to the desert. They were all very tired after they got off the train.
Then, they had to ride a camel in Gobi desert. In the first night, they slept in a Mongolian’s house.
He was very friendly and told Helena and her parents not to walk too close to the center of the
desert. After a few days, they thanked him and kept on exploring the desert.
First, they built some tents. Helena’s parents asked her to sit inside one of the tents to wait
for them. Then, her parents dug a tunnel in under the ground. After a few hours, they came out,
holding a few antique clay pots with traditional Mongolian patterns.
“Let’s go back!” said Helena’s father happily.
“No, I wanted to stay and explore more, “replied Helena, a bit crossed.
“You have to do your homework, don’t you?” asked Helena’s mother.
“Fine! Go back now!” Helena said, feeling very mad. She thought that her parents don’t
understand her.
That night, after they had found a lot of ancient clay pots, Helena’s parents were too busy (and
joyful) not only finding out the history but also how old the pots were. They did not even notice
that Helena was gone.
As for Helena, she was walking outside the tents (she took a pot) and actually, she prayed
for another adventure. She thought this trip was too boring. After she prayed and walked, she
eventually fell asleep. She didn’t want to go back. She kept walking.
As she woke up about half and hour, she found that the pot disappeared. At its place, there
was a piece of paper instead. The paper looks very old, and on it, golden letters were written.
Before she could read what it is about, she was already whisked up the sky; the paper enlarged
and was under her feet. Helena’s mouth was wide open; she could not say a word. She thought of
being on a magic carpet. She laughed, yet she was panicky, since she was afraid of heights.
“Put me down at once!” she yelled. The ‘flying paper’ had stopped flying finally, but Helena
got quite hurt when it crashed.
In front of her, there was a big oasis with a lot of trees. She was scared by the tree branches,
