grabbed the keys, opened Sabrina’s cage and cut her rope with a shell. Both girls managed to disappear
before the guard came back.
Outside, they hid behind some seaweed. All of a sudden, they heard someone mumble behind them. It was
a little girl, also a mermaid. Sabrina asked, “Are you a human, too, little fella?” The girl answered in a low
voice, “Yes, I am. My name is Phoebe. I think you also want to get out of here. We need to find the
glowing seaweed. It is hidden somewhere around here. That is why I am always searching through the
seaweed.’’ Sabrina and Katerina both nodded their heads. Carefully they started combing through the
seaweed bushes. It was very filthy down there. There were empty chips bags, coke cans and other trash.
There was something glowing in a blue plastic box. Sabrina rushed to it and exclaimed, “Hey, I think this is
it. The glowing seaweed!” In a second, she grabbed some and gave it to her friends. Then, a guard, who had
heard the noise whirled up. “Quick, Phoebe shouted. “Eat it!” The girls gulped down the glowing
seaweed. Immediately, they turned into humans and rose up to the surface of the water. But now the guards
were tiny in comparison, so they dropped their spears and rushed back to the castle.
The girls swam back to the edge of the Taipo Reservoir. Katrina looked at her orange swatch. Only five
minutes had passed! A minibus came driving past and came to a stop with tires screeching. “Have you had
enough of the Reservoir?” The driver smiled. “Hop on in, girls, you are all wet.’’ The girls dragged
themselves on the bus.
When they arrived at Katerina’s home, they crept into her room and got changed.
Katerina set the table for lunch and told her parents, “My friends have dropped by for lunch today.”
