The Gigantic Clamonster from the Pearl River
Creative Primary School, Lo, Alden - 11, Fiction: Group 2
t was an unusual stormy night in the Pearl River. Suddenly, a gigantic wave, as high as a building,
crashed into a riverboat, causing it to flip left and right, making the captain and the passengers – few
American intelligent scientists, hit the wall and bumped their heads. When they all thought that things
couldn’t get worse, “pop!” went the lid of a barrel. It fell down and the greenish liquid inside started
flowing out. When the liquid reached the engines of the boat, “BOOM!” the boat exploded, fire was
everywhere, debris of the boat and the liquid sank into the river.
Deep underneath the river hid a starving clam. The algae above it took away all the oxygen, left no food
for this poor clam for days. So when the greenish liquid was dripping into the water, the clam just quickly
gulped it down without knowing what it was.
Only one scientist was saved from the accident. He was a Portuguese-American called Ernesto. He was
the only person who knew the secret of the greenish liquid. It was a biological, unstable, extremely
flammable, green oozy liquid that was left by the Japanese in southern China during World War II. This
liquid had the power to change any creature’s DNA into an unknown creature’s DNA. He was very
concern what would happen to the liquid after it had spilled into the river. So from that day onward, he
stayed in Macau, and kept a close eye to all ecosystem news around the Pearl River Delta.
One day, Ernesto saw the news while surfing the internet: a Hong Kong fisherman went fishing around
the river, and caught a clam which had a pearl with the size of quail egg. When Ernesto looked closer at the
monitor, the extremely large pearl also had the swirling pattern.
He suspected that clam had absorbed the
liquid, and it started to change its DNA. He called his best friend, Siu-Ming, who was a marine biologist
working at the University of Hong Kong.
“Siu-Ming, I need your help. Did you see the news about the giant pearl with a strange pattern? Could
you get that for me immediately?” said Ernesto.
“You want to get this for your girlfriend?” laughed Siu-Ming.
“I am serious, remember that night I was rescued from the river?” Ernesto told Siu-Ming about the
liquid and begged him to keep the secret.
“No problem, Ernesto. I know that fisherman. I have a great connection with him. He has helped me
a lot in my researches.”
After Ernesto had got the clam from Siu-Ming, he put it inside a thick and secure glass box in his home
laboratory. He checked it every day to see what the effect the liquid did to it.
One day, when Ernesto went out for lunch, the pearl inside the clam suddenly turned black. It started to
crack like an egg, and a baby monster was hatched!
It was a Clamonster! It was so strong that it could
break the glass box and escaped from the window. It turned invisible and jumped into the water.
At night, Siu-Ming called Ernesto in a panic voice, “Have you seen the news?”
Ernesto turned on the TV immediately. There was sand coming off the bases of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-
Macau Bridge in Tung Chung construction site, like they were being chewed by something!
“Oh no, it must be THE CLAM! It broke out from my laboratory today…” shrieked Ernesto. “What
shall I do now?”
