When they come you can almost feel those ancient Mongolian worriers’ souls hunting you down.
How I wish I could find a well!’
‘I won’t tell you where it is because I want to have you as my dinner, unless…. You tell me
what the world’s like outside?’ Scorpy demanded.
‘The world outside is a mess. There are wars, and they’re happening everyday. Countries are
divided and they fight for an abstract reason called glory. They fight because others are different.
Religions, boundaries, resources, land, there is a reason to fight for everything. People launch
weapons towards others, killing others. Not in a way as the little prince died, but in a much more
painful way. The most ridiculous thing is, those soldiers who fight for nothing, die for nothing.
Countries are war machines, they produce dead bodies. Innocent people come and go, buried
underneath the soil and aren’t remembered by anyone. Maybe somewhere inside this desert
Genghis Khan and the soldiers of the great Mongol Empire are buried. People remember Khan’s
name, but they never know who his top solider was.’
‘I’ve been to Genghis Khan’s grave, he has already become a skeleton! Why are soldiers
so stupid? Why do they live for nothing and die painfully? I used to think humans were wise
creatures, but now I think that wolves are smarter. At least, wolves don’t kill each other, and they
do hunt just to survive. Why don’t they all come to the desert? We scorpions can give them a
painless death, then we will never starve again.’
‘We human wants to seek our own potential, and we don’t believe 100% in what people tell us.
We only believe what we see and what we can do from experience. Do you know little scorpion,
Human like to explore. My ancestors were monkeys, we neither belonged to the sea, the hills, nor
to the grasslands or the deserts. We belong to the forest in the first place. Through the process of
challenging ourselves, we overcome obstacles and become a better species. Life is not just about
living or dying. Before coming into this Desert, I had a bad time with my wife. I flew here just to
escape the life I was living in, but now I just want to go back to meet her and tell her how much
I love her. That’s why I haven’t given up yet, because giving up is easy, suffering is hard, and
death? Death is the one permanent solution to temporary problems and pain. It just isn’t worth it.
Right now my throat is burning, and my stomach seems like it’s digesting itself, all my muscles
are aching and I neither have any spare food nor water. Although your little sting seems like
heaven to me, I will never give up, until I starve or die of thirst.’
‘Good Luck then! There is an oasis 60 kilometers due east from here. Do make it!’ Scorpy
said. His tears fell onto the sand, then quickly vaporized. His vision was blurred. The man started
crawling in the direction that he pointed to, each move with a moan. Scorpy looked further to the
endless desert, and suddenly felt sure that the man would survive…with his strong will.
