he sun was shining, making the atmosphere intolerably hot. I was walking powerlessly
in this furnace, the Gobi Desert. I didn’t know where I was heading to. I was just
walking, without thinking.
Three days ago, my two scientist friends and I came here for collecting data of desert
and its creatures. However, while we were on the helicopter we hired, the helicopter broken down
suddenly and crashed on a sand hill. Two of them were badly injured, and then died after a few
hours. Fortunately or unfortunately, I remained alive. I took the food and drinks and went to find
a way to escape this desert. Nevertheless, I didn’t sense any changes in the view after walking for
three days. The view was still simply, yellowish brown everywhere.
I had been already desperate. I thought that I had died already; only my body was walking
by the last command made by my brain. At last, I fell on the sand. It was hot, like putting me
on a heated iron pan. I wanted to cry, as loud as I could, but I had no energy left. My eyes
gradually closed and the view became narrower and narrower. ‘Will I die?’ that’s the final words I
remembered.
‘Are you OK? Wake up! Wake up!’ a disquieting noise made me waked. ‘Where am I? Am I
died? Who save me?’ countless questions appeared in my mind. I looked around. No man was here
indeed. Instead, I saw an unbelievable big lizard lying in front of me.
‘Monster! What’s happening?’ I screamed
‘What are you talking about? You are the same with me,’ the lizard said something horrible calmly.
I looked down and turned my head. What I saw was no longer human legs and arms, but was
brown scaly leather with a long tail followed and four legs touching the ground with sharp paws.
I was totally shocked. As a scientist, I should be scientific to everything. The fact in front of me,
however, was totally true but opposed to science. I was blank for a while, until I noticed something.
‘Are you a man before?’ I asked after I had calm down.
‘No, but I know you are and you have died already,’ it answered.
‘Well, it is good that you know what’s happening. Then please tell me why this could happen,’
I said.
‘Um… Sorry, I have no answer to your question as I only know about the fact but not the
whole process.’ It apologized.
‘That’s ok, but do you know will everyone transform to an animal after they die in this
desert?’ I hoped the answer was yes, as I wanted to meet my two friends again.
‘I am really sorry for that. I only know very few things about this. I am here only because I
have told to bring you to a place,’ it still could not answer.
‘Where? For what?’ I asked immediately.
No responds was given. It crawled away quickly. I tried to move and follow. However, using
four legs to move was really difficult! I thought this would be my next essay topic, if I could
change back to a man. Luckily, after a few practice, I managed to do it well. We crawled for a long
