O
h!” yelled Edward, “my foot has been bit by something.”
Edward then took off his shoe to see how his foot was. As he was taking off his sock,
some petroleum-like blood was running out from the wound. Alex and Calvin immediately
took out the first aid bag, helping Edward deal with his wound. “There’s still a long way to
go. Maybe we stay here for a night and let this patient have some rest,” suggested Alex.
The dawn broke, causing the sand in the Gobi Desert blinking. As the light reflected to their
tent, Alex and Calvin woke up. “Good morning! What a nice day!” they greeted each other. In no
time, their hope was fragmented by Edward. His face was pale as death and his lips became cherry
red. He could do nothing but moaning in the tent.
“Oh my God! What happen to your wound, brother?” shouted Alex and Calvin.
Edward was so painful that he couldn’t speak a word.
“We’d better stay here and take care of him until he recovers,” advised Alex.
Time flew. Alex, Calvin and Edward already stayed in the desert for three days but it seemed
that Edward’s injury had no much change. Meanwhile, their food and water were almost used up.
They, however, had no place to refill the water and the food. In order to solve this urgent problem,
Alex and Calvin tried hard to think the solution to the problem. For the solution, they had to
struggle between saving his friend’s life and saving their own lives. It was difficult for them to
make a decision.
As they were still struggling, there was a low voice nearby.
“Let’s leave me here. The only thing you two should do is to leave the desert and stay alive,”
Edward said determinedly with his remaining energy.
“No! You can’t do that. You shouldn’t sacrifice yourself for our lives,” cried Alex.
“Alex is right. We shouldn’t leave you alone here. Do you remember what we swore when we
became brothers?’ Calvin asked with some tears coming out.
“We seek not to be born on the same day but merely hope to die on the same day,” the words
were coming out in the same rhythm with power.
Since the water and the food were used up, Alex, Calvin and Edward passed away one by one
from the thirst and the starvation in the cold, still Gobi Desert.
Suddenly, there was a bright light from the sky spotted on their body, raising them from the
desert. It’s God’s action. Because of their touching brotherhood, the God nominated them as the
guardians of the Gobi Desert. From then on, Alex, Calvin and Edward protect the travellers when
they passed through the Gobi Desert.
