Ernest Swims in The Pearl River Delta

ere is the tale of a 12-year-old boy named Ernest who lived in a poor fishing village.
Long ago, the boy always went to the Pearl River delta and enjoyed swimming there. He liked
the Pearl River very much because he liked the feeling of the river’s water covering all over him. As he lay
down on the river, he saw a boat spilling black oil into the river! He soon realized that the river was turning
black! He fled out of the river and ran back to his hut. He told his mother everything he had seen. Then, he
went out to the shore and shouted to the sky, “O’ god of the sea, please make the river clean and shiny like
crystal again!” Then, he ran back home and slept. In his dream, he dreamt about playing in the river. When
he woke, he changed his clothes and went out to see the river. He thought he saw a figure standing on the
water but wasn’t sure what it was and where the figure stood, the river’s water was clean! He just hoped for
luck and waited for other parts of the river to be clean too. Next day, he looked at the Pearl River from his
hut and the River was clean again! So he rushed to the Pearl River.
It really WAS clean! So he looked up to the sky and said: “O’ God of the sea, thank you for granting my
wish!” Then, he jumped into the water. This river is called the 'Pearl’ River after since Ernest prayed to
God for clean water in the river!!!!!!!
