n a gloomy mid night, the moon was shining brightly in the dark sky. As usual,
I was in my small bedroom, but not reading books this time. I was staring at the
clock. I couldn't even blink my eyes.
Finally, the clock struck twelve. I was sure that my classmates Sophia and Ray were as
excited as I was. Our eyes were bright and gleaming with light. We all knew what was
going to happen.
After my family members in the house were asleep, I quickly packed up my backpack. I
tipped toe and down the stairs, went through the corridor and finally up to the closed
door. I opened the door quietly and made sure that no one knew. Just when I stepped
through the door, a chilly wind blew. I looked around the silent street. There was no one
else. I was sure that Sophia and Ray werewaiting for me at Sophia's house. I ran towards
thatdirection. My heart was beating faster and faster.
Last week, at school, Sophia, Ray and I watched a TV program about historical facts of
the Southern Song Dynasty. It was about the Southern Song's little "last emperor",
Emperor Bing. Then, we discussed about an unearthed water well which was used in the
Song Dynasty and discovered in the construction site of the MTR station. We hoped go
there and take a look because there mightbe mysterious things inside.
Back at Sophia's house, Sophia, Ray and I were there. We took out our torch and found
the way to the construction site where the ancient water wells, houses, bricks and tiles
were discovered in recent months. We needed to walk through the long grass in order to
seek in.
Suddenly we heard a loud howling sound. It might be a ghost! We were so scared that we
hugged each other tightly. But we knew wehad to walk forward. The grass was growing
taller and taller as we walked. We could hardly see our way. A glimmer of hope, we saw a
small dot of light in the distance. The dot was getting bigger and bigger until we reached
the front door.
Suddenly, Ray whispered softly with tension,“There is a security guard sitting behind us.
Be careful!" We all stepped backwards. Fortunately, he was just sleeping.
"That was close." I gasped.
"Shall we find another path?” asked Sophia.
We looked around the site which was full of sand, lumpy stones and some huge vehicles
but still couldn’t find anything. Then we took off our shoes and crept slowly one by one.
Ultimately, we found the unearthedsquare-shaped water well which was builtwithrough
and lumpy bricks. We thought that this was the one we were looking for. We stood
nearby the well to have a closer look. Ray looked down the hole and said that the hole
was wide, moist and extremely deep. He couldn’t even see the bottom of the well. We
wanted someone to climb in the well to have a closer look. We chose Sophia. We tied a
rope around her body and let her down the hole. Down and down she went.
Suddenly, we heard a crack. I found that the rope was starting to break. I was pale. I
didn't know what to do. For a second or two, we heard a loud screaming sound from the
well. It was Sophia! She was falling down. Meanwhile, Ray and I tried to snatch the rest
of the half rope but we weren't strong enough to hold it. Finally all of us rolled, tumbled
