The Pirate of the Pearl River Delta

he bridge is so big that it looks as if it is connecting the sky. Buildings are tall and aeroplanes are
powerful, even the sky is busy. One day, I will work in the city.” Dongdong and his family were
fishermen. They lived on a boat and they sailed it around Guangzhou, Hong Kong and The
Pearl River of Delta.
It was a peaceful evening. Dongdong's family moored their boat near Cheung Chau island. He was
playing with his friend Xiaopak in the water, a Chinese white dolphin.
Suddenly, a large whirlpool appeared from nowhere. Dongdong and Xiaopak tried to get away from it,
but the whirlpool was too strong, that it pulled them down to the bottom of the sea!
When he woke up, he was in a strange place. It looked familiar but there were no buildings.There were
only trees and mountains. He looked around but he couldn't find Xiaopak anywhere.
“Where is papa? I have to find him!” Dongdong thought.
So he built a raft and he paddled and paddled. He felt very hungry and thirsty. He didn’t even know
where he was. Suddenly he saw a ship. It had a red flag hanging on it. On the flag he saw a skull, and suddenly
he realised that it was a pirate ship.“I never thought there are still pirates nowadays, ” Dongdong thought.
The captain saw him and helped him get onto the ship.The captain only had one eye and wore weird
clothes. “Where do you live?” asked the captain. “I live at the shore of Guangdong. I am a fisherman and I
want to find my father, ” answered Dongdong.
“Come with me!” said the captain excitedly. Dongdong agreed.
Dongdong went on a ship with the captain and found out that the captain was in fact Cheung Po Tsai!
“Cheung Po Tsai lived 100 years ago, I think I have gone back to historical Hong Kong! What can I do
now?”
Seeing Dongdong’s deep in his thoughts, the Captain said, “I don’t know where you came from and I
can’t take you back home at the moment, so I will give you this - a night-luminescent pearl. It will shine at
night like a star. Find your way home and back to your father.”
The night-luminescent pearl was so beautiful that Dongdong couldn’t help but run to the deck and
raised it up.There were lots of stars in the sky and the pearl was just like one of them.
When he was looking at the pearl, suddenly he heard familiar sounds. It was Xiaopak! He also saw a
large whirlpool, so he jumped into the water. Cheung Po Tsai saw him and shouted, “Careful, there is a
whirlpool!”
When he opened his eyes he saw his father next to him and he knew he was back at home. He ran out
to the deck and saw those very tall buildings again, there he also saw Xiaopak in the sea…
