Fiction: Group 2
It's a Dolphin's Life
American International School, Gandhi, Palak - 11, Fiction: Group 2
t’s a beautiful sunny day under the sea. And everyone is singing “Under The Sea,” the coolest song ever
made. I’m Pearl, a pink dolphin and I live in the Pearl River Delta. It isn't exactly what you’ll call
paradise but for me it’s perfect. We can play for a really long time. Also we have school where we learn
things like you, except instead of English we have Dinglish and for geography we have The Pearl River
Delta. We have to keep on moving because humans destroy the water by polluting it, making a lot of us die.
All of us live in a big family and seeing a solitary dolphin is really rare. We live in families of 20.
That’s a lot of dolphins! Since we keep moving from place to place, we exercise more than you would in a
year. If you think that life is really easy for us, it’s not. Have you ever tried to sleep right next to the Hong
Kong Airport?! It’s so noisy that our delicate eardrums break making it is really hard to survive out there.
We have to use earplugs to protect our eardrums!
School is the best time of the day. Here we learn important things like how to speak Dinglish or
learn which fish is good to eat. We are also learning English and human beings, unlike you because you are
learning about us and our cousins. Also we have five 15 minute playtimes and an hour-long lunch. We also
have advanced electronics that are waterproof making it easier to use. Instead of writing down on a paper,
we draw on an electronic board and send our answers to the teacher. Also we can play a game called
Treasure Hunting by using special types of glasses
our
technology is way more advanced than you can ever
imagine. We’ve also discovered Atlantis during a field trip! So yeah, we’re living the dream, scientists!
Animals that live in the Pearl River Delta are very extraordinary. They come in so many different
shapes and sizes. Some of them are pink dolphins (which are our species!), Chinese sturgeon, and many
others. My one of my favourite animal is the black-faced spoonbill. They are one of the rarest animals in
the Pearl River Delta. Their beak looks like a spoon and that’s how they got their name. In winter, the
mudflats formed at the Inner Deep Bay provide food and a resting area for many birds that migrate,
including the black-faced spoonbill. Another one of my favourite animal is the white cloud mountain
minnow. Sadly, these beautiful fish are only found in Guangdong. When all of the human beings thought
these animals were gone, they were just hiding away from those insane creatures.
We have so many special holidays, such as Saint Dolly’s Day, Dolphin’s Christmas, and many
others. One of the most important holiday is called The Pearl River Respect. During this holiday we spend
the whole day learning about the Pearl River Delta. Also we celebrate another important holiday called
Death’s Day. We all invest at least one hour for remembering about our ancestors. If we don’t remember to
do this, our ancestors will fade away from the Land of the Remembered to the Land of the Forgotten. We
also have a day, on April 14, called The Titanic and during this horrible ay we cry at the thought of each
dolphin who had to suffer the sinking of the Titanic.
All of the games we play have something to do with moving. The one of the most common one is
called “What’s the, Mr. Shark?” To play you have to choose someone to be the shark. The others stay draw
a line that is approximately 13 dolphins away from the shark. The group of dolphins say “What’s the time,
Mr. Shark?” and Mr. Shark replies with a time. For example it can be “12 o’clock.” The dolphins have to
take that many dolphin steps. When Mr. Shark says “Time to gobble up some dolphins!” the shark has to
catch a dolphin before all of the dolphins have passed the line. Another heart pumping game we play is
called “Dolly in the Middle.” To play this game, you have to make two groups with the same amount of
dolphins. Then you have to pick one or two Dollies who stay in the middle. Find a coconut and toss it
across to the other team. The Dollies have to catch the coconut before the other team gets it. If the Dolly
gets the coconut, the dolphin who threw the coconut has to become Dolly and it repeats over and over
again until the adults call us.
Have you ever tried our fantabulous delato? Or our superb fried fish salad? I don’t wanna brag, but
our delicious menu makes everyone’s mouth water in hunger. The most memorable chow is our world
famous quadruple chocolate cookies. They are the made from the finest chocolate on the world! Also the
paramount restaurant is the Pearl River Delta is called
The Dolphin’s Legendary Ice.
It may seem like a
funny name, but it’s the best restaurant ever invented. You get to eat goodies in the biggest buffet ever!
Sometimes you get food to feed the white cloud mountain minnow. They are so cute!
