Fiction: Group 2
Downstairs, a sweet aroma filled the air. Ahhh! Grandma’s buns for breakfast. Li licked her lips. The letter
was handed to Li as well as a bun. She took a bite. The stationery was cool and smooth to the touch. Li
gingerly turned the envelope around and slowly ripped it open. She read. Words flitted past:
Outstanding
talent, wonderful realism, sensitively drawn, exceptional portraits
…
“I got in,” she whispered slowly and softly.
“SHE GOT IN!”
“Oh Li, we’re so proud!”
Two months later, Li stared at the skyline, the big buildings rising from the ground, the sun’s reflection
hitting the buildings. It was very different from her small village. Li picked up her luggage and walked into
her new life in Hong Kong.
